I got that call from the post office this morning at 8:31.
Here we go!
Pretty, the cat, is quite fascinated with the little chirps.
What could Ms Pretty be thinking????

Congrats, Texasrockgarden! They're so cute, there is just nothing like fuzzy butts to make you smile. I think Ms Pretty is thinking LUNCH!
One of my chick orders that I couldn't cancel arrived today. 17 WM's. So I'm getting a quick chick fix before they go on their merry way. Aww they're so cute!
"I rubbed de lamp, and dey brought me chickenses. Genies is goooooood..."
That is an awesome little brooder.
I think she's saying, "What are those crazy little things doing in there?"
I think it's more like "Do you see what I see". Wonderful pic's and great set up. Never get tired of the babies. How can you not love em...Thanks for sharing.
I love that brooder
So far the brooder is working. This morning all were still alive and seemed to be doing fine.
Now I have to go put some more finishing touches on the coop and hen yard. Don't want to keep the little boogers in the house to much longer than after they feather out. I spect it will start to get pretty smelly after a while.
Chickens also produce an amazing amount of very fine dust. You got yours at the right time of year; they shouldn't need much protection from the weather.

As soon as they are feathered out they go to the coop to be let outdoors every day and put up at night.
Ms Pretty has plans
"Monday, lunch"
"That one will be Tuesday, dinner"
Oh, the joy of Take out....
Just kidding, of course...
TRG are these your first chicks? They grow up so fast! If I remember right mine started climbing out of their cardboard box around three weeks old and I took them outside at 6 weeks I think. Not absolutely positive about that. They really do begin to smell and need to be outside. You'll know when. :)
Be careful of that cat too. I left my babies in the backyard once and before I knew it, the neighbor cat had eaten two. It was heartbreaking. I saw her jumping over the back fence and instead of 24, I had 22. Wasn't hard to figure out.
Looks like your chickens will have a really nice safe place to be at night. Maybe the snakes won't be able to get in there.

The last chicks I had were in the early eighties. My youngest son raise broilers for a 4H project. We had also baby layers, turkeys, and guineas.
Snakes...you ever reach in a nest and grab a chicken snake?
Nope, never had that privilege.
I know there are snakes at the horse lot though. I've seen the long skins lying around.
When feeling for eggs a snake-in-the-nest is an unpleasant surprise!
I've got the heebie jeebiez now
