One of my bantam hens has gotten quite broody, and since then, I have not seen one egg from her. It's very odd. She wants to sit on the full-sized eggs, but not her own. Is this normal?
Broody Banty Stopped Laying
If I`m reading you right when they are broody they will not lay an egg but they will lay on eggs to hatch them.
Mev, I have 2 bantam hens. They'll go broody, then stop laying when the egg collection doesn't happen (because I gather the eggs). They snap out of it and start laying again within a week or two.
I pick up eggs probably three times a day, and I take her out of the nesting box and put her outside every time. But she has stopped laying her little eggs. Sucks because I only have two banties left and I used to have a dozen of their eggs to sell per week (mixed with the mediums from my Polish) and now I'm only getting about five from the other. Oh well - it's pretty stinkin' cute - she's so tiny and SO defensive of those other chicken's eggs!
If she's like mine, she'll get past it and start laying again before you know it.
