These are chickens from Vietnam, and some of the toughest guys around no doubt. They must be fighting roosters because the last picture tells about how many times this rooster won and how he lost his eyes.
http://www.ganoi.com Don't they just look like mighty warriors? Not that I approve of fighting roosters, I don't.
This is a video on youtube of these gorgeous birds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opF9b9dcEp8

They look very much like the Shamo to me. I don't care for the look. I abhor fighting chickens. And you can't keep the games from fighting so you have to keep them apart. And just because they will fight does not mean they are good fighters. But where other breeds will run to escape when they are outclassed, the "game" cocks will continue to fight until they are killed. It is VERY ugly. I could show you a pic of the roo I had to put down today because he was not a good fighter but would not quit. He was blinded by a much larger big stock roo. The game cock would not quit until he could no longer see and the big stock roo left him for dead. I was not home when it happened. Had it been 2 game cocks the winner would have still been attacking the dead body when I got home. They are beautiful birds but they are hard wired to fight and nothing will change that.
I'm so sorry about your rooster cajun. I know that must have been difficult for you. It always hurts me when I lose one, I just tell myself, "Don't think about it."
I couldn't figure out if they were the same as O'Shamo's or not, they may be.
When you say games do you mean the little chickens with the long legs? When I saw pictures of them I thought they were tall, the legs looked so long, but at the poultry show I saw some and they were small birds. Or does game mean something different? Then, I saw some I thought were game, and the lady said "No, those are moderns". Obviously I have a lot to learn about chickens.
To me, these birds are comical. So ugly they are cute. I like them, but I know the roosters cannot be trusted together. Even my silkies, who are known to be friendly and less aggressive still have their moments, even the hens.
Thanks for looking cajuninky, I don't know if anybody else did. I liked the video, some of those birds are gorgeous and even the music wasn't too bad.
As far as I can tell Modern Games are a type of bantam that resembles true game breeds but have no agression issues. When I say game I am talking about the real deal big boys that are exploited for fighting. They are some of the most beautiful birds you will ever see but they have to be handled very responsibly. I wish there were shows just for their beauty. Then there would be a place for them.
This is Skeets. We gave him away. I only have 1 game rooster left. He is beautiful. He is a Brown Legged Hatch. He is in a secure pen all by himself. No idea what I will do with him.
Yes, he's magnificent!
I was looking up "brown legged hatch" but nothing comes up. I can find "yellow legged hatch", "blue legged hatch" and "green legged hatch" but no brown so far.
http://longscoregamefarm.com/blood-lines/ Yours looks similar to the top right on this site, but yours is so much prettier.
From the little bit I read this morning, even though it's illegal, they are still fighting them. I know my hispanic neighbors were fighting their's and even had an $800 rooster stolen.
I think it's more of a man thing. Women don't usually approve of such. It's the hunter/warrior part of them. Personally I guess I'd rather see them fight roosters than shoot and bomb people.
Shamo and Thai are the same according to an Asian kid that bought my modern game... His parents raise them. They are VERY popular around here, but the theft rate is so high no one claims to have them or can show them off. They have to be raised in hiding if you have a good bloodline.
I love Shamo.. they are so quiet, so sweet and are fantastic mousers! I had a pair and wish I still had them. Very tolerant of other birds too. I never had one problem with them. Except that I didn't have room and got rid of them in one of my "sell downs"
It is a shame what some breeds have been turned into. It's human's fault, and it's sickening.
Personally I love the breed and enjoyed the pictures until I saw one that had lost both eyes and still fights. I didn't post just because I wanted to forget about it.
Those ones that are red and have no feathers on their bodies in places, is that just normal for that breed? One looks like he's wearing chaps on his legs. So adorable.
A shame about the thefts, it's happening to the silkie breeders too. The lady I bought my white silkies from, I think she's in Iowa, said, they never EVER tell anyone where they keep their silkies. They are kept inside and even in stainless steel veterinary cages. The show roosters are in there alone. She said she holds each rooster each day for at least a few minutes.
My rooster now has his girl friend with him at least. That ought to make him a little happier even if he has no room to run around. He's a real sweety. I just hope they will breed. Otherwise I am out a considerable amount of $. I'll probably never get my money back I put into them anyway. Oh well. I really liked them and wanted them SO BADLY. That was definitely an OCD chicken moment!
If I can get my horse lot cleaned up I hope to give them all some room to run around. Makes me want to put up metal all around and just leave the top wire though. You never know who's lurking around.
The nicest game roo I had was a William MacCrea Roundhead. He was a beauty and very easy to handle.
The guy I got my Brown Hatch from had a breed called a Saipan from Thailand. They were big, heavy brutes and vicious.
The Asils or Aseels or real fighters. Even the hens are agressive. The roo has to defeat the hen before he can breed her. Hens have been known to gang up and kill stags.
I think those feathers have been plucked.
That sounds mean to pluck their feathers! You think that red color is natural?
No. It's a cruel business.
