Black plastic mulch

I'd like to hear opinions on putting out black plastic mulch to heat up the soil before setting out my veg plants, also to kill the weed seeds. Would I leave the mulch there all season? I've been gardening for many years but have never tried this.

I used it for strawberries & it was pretty good at suppressing the weeds, but they managed to get in by the plants, & then it was hard not pulling out the strawberries.....I also used it once for eggplant, to try to heat up the soil...guess it worked OK, but it was work keeping the plastic to stay in the soil.....I ended up putting bricks on the ends, but they sometimes didn't work if the wind was strong....
