Daffodils in Tennessee

(Doug) Murfreesboro, TN

Feburary Gold is always our first daffodil. Local folks call them butter cups, but that's not what they really are. Closely behind them come the second wave of narcissus like Ice Follies which you can see here. The yellow cup matures more white than this. They have their best color contrast when they are new.

That is a really pretty one. I like the two tone daffs but then I like the common just plain solid yellow ones too. My earliest daffs opened yesterday with afew of my Rijnveld's Early Sensation I put in last fall just opening up. There are lots more of them to open.

Hi Rita,
I like bicolored daffodils too. They have a wonderful combination of yellow and pure white that appeals to me. Here is a picture of Ice Follies as it fades to a more pale yellow cup. Please keep us informed about what is blooming on Long Island.

Only some crocus and the few daffs. Nothing new as it was cold here with a dusting of snow on the ground this morning. It rained the rest of the day so it was gone by mid afternoon.

Can you tell us the first daffodils that appear there? I am always interested in the bloom sequence so I can mix bulbs that will bloom together. Here is a picture of daffodil Rapture that appeared right after Ice Follies. I love the reflexed form.

I don't have my daffs marked as to what they are. I know the ones now starting blooming are the Rijnveld's Early Sensation because of the location. But I also planted various mixes that I bought from Scheepers. They are in another location out front. Then I did buy indivual fancy ones in small lots from Brent and Beckies (lots of more orangy trumpets and pink trumpet types) but again, just planted them. I want them for spring color and don't much care about the variety names.

Rita, I hope to see pictures of these when they bloom .
Here is a photo of Golden Aura that is current in my lawn. This is a somewhat back-lit view. I couldn't find this bulb at Brenk & Becky's last year, but it will turn up sooner or later, and I need to plant some more.

And here it is lighted from the front.

Today is a messy day, rain and wintry mix but the snow is starting to stick. Supposed to end tomorrow. Will see what sticks.

The poor daffs out there trying to bloom in the cold. I did have afew of the Scheepers daffs from the mixes bloom but so far they are all the same, a solid yellow.

Will take pictures in better weather. Your daff is lovely.

I will put pictures on my Daffodils are comming up all over the place thread that I took this morning.

Rita,
I am interested in the bloom sequence in your area. Please show us some pictures as soon as you can. Here is Bravoure. I have been growing it for nearly twenty years. It looks like a stick of butter stuck into snow. It is one of my favorites.

I can take pictures of the daffs as thery bloom but none of my daffs are marked as to what they are. So there will not be any helpful information.

Please do take the pictures as the bulbs bloom. Someone else here can determine what the identities are. It will interest everyone.

Ok, I will take lots of pictures.

Any new ones opening for you? I am adding my pictures to my Daffodils are all over this year thread as they open for me. I finially got a new orange trumpet open today.

The really fun part for me is that you guys down south are posting daffodil pictures now and I am having blooms too here at the same time.

I'm about to run out of daffodils! What a sad situation. I'll have to wait until next year. But you can show us how they are flowering in New York. Here is Bravoure's swan song.

It's a very pretty one and must be a late bloomer. I have so many daffs that are just coming out of the ground now while others are blooming. So weird.

My daffs are really blooming out now. I will try to get pics tonight and post them. My hyacinths are beginning to bloom also.
