Buying cuttings, when is it safe?

(Ang) Bremerton, WA(Zone 8b)

I have very few orchid cacti and I would like to get some more. When is a good time to buy cuttings for Spring and what is the minimal temps they can withstand? I don't want them to be shipped when it's too cold and I'm not sure after the last frost date is reliable.

Tikipod, the short answer would be anything above freezing.
Mine live outside year round, and in Dec. and Jan. we were into the low 30s often this year, but not down to freezing. They grew like weeds, and 7 of the 9 have buds. One is blooming today, but the wind and rain prevent pics today. LOL! If you're looking for named ones, by all means buy the cuttings...but ask what you're getting. I have bought the cutting in net bags from shows, but I'm not sure I'll live long enough to see them bloom. I've had much better luck with stem cuttings that are mature, than with those 6" ones. If you don't care about names, I have three in 10" basket/pots that you could have cuttings from for postage, but I warn you they won't fit in a small "Priority Mail" box. I have an Epi. oxypetelum, a large flowered pink (in bloom now), and a large flowered coral. These always need pruning! If you're interested, D-Mail me.

I am fairly new to epis. I have received a few cuttings from a friend but lost them all to scale? So where do you all suggest buying plants/cuttings from? Not something you find very often locally.

I was new to epis last year and went crazy on cuttings from ebay, then I noticed that there were some really reasonable epi plants. I started to buy the plants instead and have been so much happier, they are already rooted and I expect some to even bloom this year. All of the cuttings but a few have survived and I'm hoping they get a good strong hold this summer, but from my experience I would suggest rooted plants. I bought beautiful healthy plants last year from Pacific Epi's on ebay. they haven't had any through the winter but I'm hoping they return this spring. Just my thoughts. Good Luck

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

I have un-named pink, red, and yellow. Also have a white one (I think there is a name tag, I'll look) and 2 I bought from Logees a couple years ago that have buds that will open soon. Any interest, tikipod? Or anyone else have anything to trade?
