There is a web site called"Operation Fuzzy Mice". It says the word on Twitter is that Japan's National
Defense Force landed a helicopter on Tashiro-Jima Island, also known as Cat Island, and there is damage to docks
and buildings, but no reported deaths! No word on cat deaths, possibly a few.
Upon observing the island, there were quite a lot of cats alive and well! Of
course, like other parts of Japan, they do need supplies.
This is such wonderful news! If you've ever seen video of the island, the
majority of the cats there are Japanese Bobtails, but there are many "tailed"
cats there, as well...Long and short hair alike. The fisherman, most over 60
years old, feel the cats are a good luck charm for their way of life.
There is only one person on the island under 60 years of age. They opened the island to tourists several years ago hoping to encourage more young people to come to the island. The cats greatly outnumber the islanders but appear to be well cared for. Very interesting place. If you Google Cat Island there is a lot of information on the web.
