Seedling concerns

Arlington, TX

I have small seedlings, some of which are ready to move to larger pots other still quite small. I am wondering, what to do with these plants this summer? They will be too small to move to a bed for a while and by the time they are big enough it will be too hot to plant the little things out. What to do with these plants? Perhaps mine are just extra small or are yours that small too. Is anyone planting out the little seedlings? I do not know what to do with them.

I usually move them to small pots for a while to develop good roots and to harden off, then they can be planted in the flower bed, given a little extra care they should be fine.

I'm hardening off a lot my seedlings now. I start with two hours a day, gradually longer hours each day. Keeping close watch as to how well they do. Many will really leap with the real light and be ready sooner then you think.

Years when I've grown slow to establish perennials, I'll keep them in a pot and keep in a shadier spot till fall planting.

Keep notes as to what annuals didn't get large enough to plant out, you'll know next year what will need to be started sooner.
