I bought these plans for $35. online and think it was a rip off.. but I did manage to figure it out and build 2 of the best coops ever.
There are several reasons this is the best ever design.
1. It is safe
2. No crawling in to catch chickens.
3. Dry storage above nest area. (meds, etc.)
4. Feed bin is dry
5. They get to scratch & dig..
6. It is relatively easy to move.
7. Ideal for bantams.. Great breeding pen too.
I could go on forever about how much I love this coop. I built my first one for under $300. so yeah.. it's perfect!
My very best Coop
If anyone wants the plans, please Dmail me.. I will send them to you the way I got them.. The roof is kinda hard to figure out.. and the base measurements might be a little tricky.. Other than that, this was easy to build.
Those are great coops - especially for warm weather. You do nice carpentry.
Thank you Porkpal. I just can't stand seeing the prices of coops these days.. No reason I can't share these plans with everyone! I know I go on and on about them... but really, it's the perfect coop for me... I wish I had 10 or 20 of them! The only drawback is the size for full sized layers.. it wouldn't hold many.. it's a perfect breeding coop though. :)
ZZ's I'm impressed, those are great looking coops. What a nice job you did on them. I really like them. There a bit small for some but for a backyard coop, I really like both of them. What a great job you did. I sure do agree with what you said also about the price of coops. They have gotten crazy. You'd have to have chicks for ten years just to pay for the coop. I'm really impressed with your building skills...Hay
really, really nice ZZ
Great job ZZ. Would be a great coop for bantams and for my doves or Pigeon. Im trying to get some summer spots outside under the trees near my pond. I spend a lot of time out there in the summer and i would love to have my lil seramas strutting around out there. We have a big dog run set up behind the pond where we usually keep a pair of eastern wild turkeys. The run blends in well under the spruce and looks very natural.
Thankz all.. I appreciate the praise, but I didn't post to boast, just to share the plans... :) I can't post them cause it's a PDF file, so if anyone wants them, just send me a Dmail with a email addy that I can attach a pdf file to.
For my layers, there is no way this would work.. My two ton lillies need a huge coop. :) This is ideal for bantams & Seramas though..
WOW!!! ZZ I had no idea that you were such a carpenter!! Great Job!
Awesome coops, ZZ! You're quite the carpenter! So many of the smaller retail coops aren't designed for extreme weather. Yours look perfect and I did note they close up nice and secure. I'm in awe that you build them yourself! Power tools are on my b'day & Christmas wish list LOL. Too bad we all can't get together for a Coop Building party!
LOL When I built the first one and the door opened and closed and all the walls fit.. Yeah, I was thrilled!! All those hours watching my step dad work in the shop paid off.
Oh Annie, wouldn't that be super fun?!! All of us together building coops!! LOL But, really, there are some bad words every now and then, like when you nail something on backwards or upside down or cut something too short..... and anyone in close range is immediately in danger.. LOL
Oh.. wanted to show the storage area inside.. above the coop and under the roof!
Would the basic design still work if just enlarged to accommodate layers?
I'm sure it would Porkpal. I originally wanted to use it as a tractor.. and the green one is light enough to move.. and I had Seramas... But yes, I have sketches and notes somewhere where I wanted to build the same exact pen for my big girls.. Just can't get too wide, without some support in the middle.. The feed bin hangs under the coop area and it would sag if it was much wider without some support.
That is another good thing about this.. the feeder can be outside, but still stay dry. :)
Love them.... oh I guess I will be building new coops
Very, very nice. Just what I'm looking for, but didn't know it....
ZZ, you have Dmail....*G*
After I get today's plans sent out.. Please.. NO MORE! I've been overwhelmed with requests..
Maybe some of the people who got them from me can share.. LOL
Thanks for the copy you sent to me ZZ. My dumb old computer at home wouldnt download the plans and you were sweet enough to help me out on that! but my dumb old computer froze up at 99.1% download on the Adobe!!! LOL!! Had to do it all on my work computer but I got them! There were a LOT of pages!
Now to get an engineer to decipher them!! Thank God there are photos and diagrams!
Thanks again!
I know it's not easy.. but if you take your time, it makes sense.. a little.. LOL I hope you can figure it out... Now you see why I felt like it was a rip off for $35. !!!
Poor ZZ.
No good deed goes unpunished.....
Nah, I'm happy.. I just got a little overwhelmed... I wouldn't deny someone a copy who needs them.. Just got a little too busy.. I didn't want to leave emains hanging unanswered..
I'm also selling seeds, so those emails & Dmails come first.. :)
Those are very attractive coops. Nice job!
They both look great! Nice job.
Thank you so much for sending me the plans.
Got my new brooder/Banty house today! The guy who built it can take the plans you sent (ZZ) and modify them any way I need . Im hoping that together we come up with a simple yet durable unit for my larger hens, something that maybe I can duplicate on my own! Thanks again ! Im hoping this will solve all the VARMIT problems!!
