That looks like the yellow daylilies I used to have. They were called Hyperion, were fragrant and got about 3 ft tall. There's also some called Happy Returns that are much smaller and shorter, about 18 inches tall. There are lots of yellow daylilies out there. I've never heard them called ditch lilies. That's usually reserved for the big orange daylilies are called that often grow along ditches and at old homesteads.

I used to have a bunch of different yellow ones, but I weeded out the yellows and oranges unless they were spectacular. Let me see if I can think of some.

Yellow Explosion is one of the best in my opinion. The bloom is rather large on a plant about 18" tall I guess.

Wynn is another nice clear yellow one, almost as nice as YE. I may have some of this one to trade later.

Ruffled Panties is kinda cute too.

Crystal Tide, Beauty to Behold, Bitsy, and Buried Treasure are just a few others.

You can look them up in the database at www.tinkersgardens.com to see what they look like and what their measurements are. I think your picture really resembles Hyperion closest. If I had any of that one, you'd be welcome to it, but I think I gave it all away last year.

BC, thank you. :-) Yes, there are some lovely yellow hybrids.

Technically, I am speaking about H. lilioasphodelus.

This one is known in many places as the yellow ditch lily as opposed to the orange ditch lily, H. fulva.

Oh, I've never heard it called that before. Most people call it Lemon Lilies. I had some of those too, but I think I gave all those away too. If I find any left, I'll holler at you.

Hey, thanks. Much appreciated. Also called Lemon Lilies some places, I guess, but maybe not "mostly". At least not where I come from. LOL.

We call them lemon lilies in most parts of Texas...and mine are lightly scented...some say lemon...and bloom in shade here in central Texas...

I never smelled mine. Maybe I should have. I might have wanted to keep them if I'd known they were lemon scented. I guess "lemon lilies" should have clued me in, but I thought it just referred to the color. Duh. LOL They were some of the first daylilies I got from trading many moons ago before I discovered that daylilies come in pinks and purples and reds too. Once I made that discovery, I went on a purging spree and got rid of most yellows and oranges.

Daylilies are edible too and I've tried a few. I wonder if the lemon lilies taste like lemons?

We've always called them ditch lilies too, so did my granny in California. She is the one that got me loving them years ago. I too am looking for some.

I found a couple of sources online, Robyn, but I reopened the thread in case maybe someone will have extras.

Thank you.
