$500 eggs anyone?

(Zone 6b)

Is that a gorgeous bird? $500 eggs is a bit much though!

(Zone 6b)

Oh, and the reserve has not been met. lol

(Zone 5b)

WOW, that is one amazing looking chicken! Eeek, on the price, it would have to be make of pure gold.

(Zone 6b)

I know, especially for eggs. No guarantee you would even get a hatch.

Ferndale, WA

I personally think some of this junk is not worthy of the forum, it's just a waste of good time and space...Is anyone here really goofy enough to consider this seriously...Probably not. It's just an oddity...Hay

(Zone 6b)

Well maybe it's just because I posted it. Personally I thought she was an absolutely gorgeous bird, and the fact that the eggs were selling for that price was worth noting. I never expect anyone to agree with me 100% of the time, do you?

Obviously somebody out there disagrees with you because the eggs have a bid on them.

(Zone 6b)

Seems to me that some people on here sell and buy chickens and eggs and make money. So far, I am not one of them. Never sold a chicken in my life, but if it is about chickens and an interesting article I see nothing I did wrong. Maybe somebody on this forum would like to buy $500 eggs. In the long run it might even prove to be quite profitable.

She is a lovely bird.

Richmond, TX

I Googled Crele chickens and found a site that was selling eggs for $1.00 each. What makes this offering so special? (She is a good looking hen!)

(Zone 6b)

This chicken was imported from Europe, or so it says, and even gives the federal document as proof. I thought Haystack would be impressed, as he loved his Marans because they came straight from France. Many of the European's chickens are different than ours, even their silkies are not the same. I guess that's why. I'm not an expert on chickens, but I have paid some attention.

I saw this chicken today while I was checking out auctions for silkies. Since eggbid is gone, I was wondering where people are selling their birds now.

Fascinates me how the different breeds are from different areas of the world and how they have been moved around from place to place. Years ago somebody cared enough about these chickens to put them on boats and sail them across the ocean. Maybe I am easily amused. Every single chicken breed has a history, some known, some unknown, and they are even testing them genetically, to try and track their heritage.

Most of the chicken breeds are forever extinct. :( Wouldn't it feel good to know you are helping some rare breed of bird from dying out?

I really liked the colors on that bird. :)

(Zone 6b)

Haystack, if I have offended you somehow I apologize.

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

It is beautiful, but I'd rather buy groceries!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I would never pay anywhere even close the that for any eggs. 30 is about all I will pay but exotic Ducks I might go 60 but they are much more delicate than chicken and domestic duck eggs and hatch would probably not be to good so I would have to want them extremely bad to even bid.

I just sold 6 Split Silver Duck eggs on e-bay for 62.00 but e-Bay took almost 10 of it and Pay almost 3. I did include 4 goose eggs and 6 domestic duck eggs for free. Wanted to give him his moneys worth on shipping lg priority box lol. I asked first if he wanted them first

Ferndale, WA

LFJ your taking this personal, I think the chicken is beautiful. That is not the point. The point is the pacticality of the chicken and the dollar amount. It doesn't matter that someone bid on it. There is a fool born every minute. I'm speaking about the forum we all frequent, where is the sense in dangling the hope diamond in front of those who can only afford a one karat set of earrings. It's taking time and space from the real interest of those of us who generally frequent this forum, and yes I had some marans, but it surely was not because I was impressed by them comming from France and you have never heard me make such a statement. If you like being oooed, and aweed thats fine but it just seems like we do well in down to earth common sense dialogue. You have not offended me and surely you have the right to post what you will, and I have the same right to say some things are just over the top silly...Hay

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I am just not impressed.. I just don't see the use? Orpingtons are not the greatest layers and they just look hog fat to me... I really don't care for Orpingtons.. I think Cochins are so much prettier..

No offense intended... to anyone... It's just my opinion.. :)

Ferndale, WA

Good for you Donna, making money is a good thing, taking advantage even of fools is not ok...Personal integrity is everything...Donna I pray for you that your continual pain will subside and you may find some permanent relief...bless you...Hay

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

I got better things to spend my money on..LOL...I like my BBS Orps and my BBS cochins..and few Easter Eggers for my grandson..

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

guess i should read what i write before entering. The Eggs were Split Silver Fulvous Whistling Ducks. The ole brains works lots faster than my hands and eyes lol

(Zone 6b)

For some reason I can really get Haystack's goat. Hopefully we have settled our differences in private dmail. He thinks I have offended others, which was never my intention. If I have offended anyone on here, I apologize to them as well.

I was just really shocked at the price of those eggs and wanted to share. That was all.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

That first bird looks almost identical to by EE roo, Gumbo. What am I bid for him? LOL On second thought I think I'll just keep him.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

If ya want my 2 cents... And this is NOT stirring the pot or taking sides.. I think Haystack's post was really harsh.. There are no threads on here that are junk and not worthy of the forum. I would have taken that real personal if it were directed at me.

I love Haystack dearly and value his opinion, but no member has the authority to say what belongs on the forum... Although his opinion is as welcome as anyone else's.

AND Value is relative.... I have a bird I wouldn't take $500. for... and she is not even purebred...

Personally, I appreciate LFJ's posting of this... It keeps us informed on what's goin on in the poultry world.. I agree with her, that this was interesting.. Even though I didn't even like the bird in the auction, I still appreciate seeing it!

Richmond, TX

I think "chicken trivia" is interesting even if not actually on topic.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I have never known Haystack to be rough or gruff. Must be having a rough time. We all have bad days. Or maybe he was hacked!! Hmmm

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Not intentionally I'm sure.. it's all in interpretation.. I'm the big crybaby and I know I am too sensitive. I would have been crushed if anyone said that about my post... that's all.
I have nothing, and will never ever have anything bad to say about Haystack. He is a very dear friend and no matter what he ever says or does, he will always be a dear friend to me. I sure had second thoughts after posting that.. but I'm honest, and that was my view.. it was, (the same as Haystack's post was) NOT intended to harm, or condemn anyone or anyone's opinion... Just said it like I saw it... which has been known to get me in trouble. :)

Ferndale, WA

Awww Shucks, Your never in trouble here ZZ's...Hay

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Whew! Glad thats over!
Kissy Kissy and make nice kiddies!
But $500.00 eggies did get a jolt out of me too!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Yup, glad that's over.. Thank you Haystack, I knew it wouldn't bother you. :)

On to more pleasant things.. :)

Gridley, IL

Lol i was watching some chocolate ophingtons on e bay they were also imports. They sold for 1000.00 for 6 eggs with 12.95 shipping I cant imagine how someone would take that kinda chance on shipped eggs .

Ferndale, WA

She_wolfie, was that by and chance someone from Greenfire Farms...Just curious...Hay

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I wouldn't pay that for the goose that layed the golden egg. LOL

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

People should remember that they can buy a whole flock of chickens for a desperately poor family in a third world nation for about $30. Heffer Project International. You could change the life of a whole family for the price of an egg. It is an outstanding program and I've participated for years.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I have never heard of it. I'll google.

Ferndale, WA

Thanks JYL, That makes a lot of sense. Helping others is truly the spirit of this forum and and info that shows us ways of doing that is a very worthy cause in MHO...Thanks again...Hay

Conroe, TX

Wow what a thread this is, interesting though.

ZZ I don't know what Orpingtons you have seen, but we have Buffs and they are beautiful and not hog fat, they do have a lot of plumage. They lay fairly well and make good pets, very friendly birds.

Gridley, IL

Hay, No they were not from greenfire but i watch them also to see how high they will go.These are imports from england somehow they were able to import great stock from a few breeders in england and are now selling eggs.I think they only had orphingtons but they had all kinds of wild color like creole orphingtons, chocolate and a bunch more there are still some of them on there but they are still around the $200-$300 mark and havent hit the reserve prices yet. I would never order anything like that but i love to watch what people will pay for them. I have to wonder if they have feinds of theirs bidding just to get those prices up like that. Here is the link for one of their auctions. They have other on there right now again.

(Zone 5b)

There are so many breeds of chickens to fall in love with!

(Zone 6b)

I ran across a site the other day with a variety of gorgeous orpingtons. The man wanted $1600 for a young pair. Figured I'd better keep my mouth shut about that. : x

Anyway, they were really pretty. The farm was immaculate and everything green and well manicured, just a pristine looking place. His birds were some of the best I've ever seen. Still, that's a very very high price for chickens.

Bridgewater, ME

I have been following the english orpinton thread on byc for a few months now just to look at them, they are beautiful.I`m sure as more of them are imported and hatched eventually the price will go down. The peaple that have these have worked long and hard to get them in the U.S and at great expense to them.I sure would like to see one thats not in a picture.
