...what your liatris looks like now and what an ironweed looks like right now? I've been weeding and I don't want to pull out either of these! This is the first spring I've had with them, so I don't know what I'm looking for. Thanks for your help!
Can Someone Show Me...
I will try to find those pictures tomorrow Stephanie.
Glad I'm not the only one trying to figure out what some of these things are. LOL

Thank you, Josephine and thank you Glenna! Glad to know I'm in good company!
I made a map of what I planted where, but as you might know....I lost it! LOL
We are a couple of hours south of you so may or may not make a difference...I have no liatris coming up yet...that entire area now has little spring no-names and the ironweed is about 2" out of the ground and looks like a miniature of the pictures on USDA...hope this helps...
O.K. Stephanie, here is my Liatris, different from Kittriana's mine is Liatris mucronata

Here is the Western Ironweed http://wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=VEBA
they look very pretty as they emerge, the two on the left.
Yes! I have liatris!! It's mixed in with some wild carrots (weeds) though, so I might have to let the weeds grow until the liatris is a bit bigger.
Will have to hunt for the ironweed. I think I saw it, but will take a pic of what I think it is and get confirmation.
Thank you!!
PS~I see mistflower in the pic with the liatris, too. ;)
Oh yes, I have a lot of things coming up, I surely hope it will all be beautiful.
Any suggestions on what to do with the weeds with the liatris?
Stephanie, the plants that are together, are they both hairy and serrated? Neither one is Ironweed.
If the one on top is not hairy, I think it is Willowleaf aster, the one on the bottom looks like Blackeyed susan.
On the wild carrot I would just cut the leaves real close to the ground with scissors it will get discouraged.
Josephine.
All six of my liatris are up and growing, they look like little grassy plants.

At first, I thought the plant I posted was another Willow Leaf Aster, so I'm thinking that's what it is. The other one probably is a BE Susan. I'll probably pull it out so the aster can have room.
Wonder where my Ironweed is?? LOL
Public correction, that wasnt a liatrice, dau says hers isn't up, that is a lilly, tall yellow, sorry guys, I had misunderstood her when we were cleaning the beds...
No problem, Kittriana. I want to see pics of the lily when it blooms!
wow, I've never heard of wild carrot getting discourged. Maybe you have to do an admonishing glare while you snip...
If the dirt isn't real hard, you probably could gently pull it out without too much damage. But yeah, just keep it from going to seed.
I've got tons of stuff just THIS CLOSE to blooming and will not just go ahead and open.
Once I get some of the leaves of the wild carrot out, I may be able to pull it out. It's just that everything is so intertwined I don't want to risk it.

Too funny....I have had to pull a few of those this year too.
IF I am home when it blooms, or can coax a pic from my dau, you will have the lilly pic,
