I just found out that you can download an order form the TSC web site and order your chicks! You can pull up a full color description of large and bantam chickens, Guineas, turkeys and Ducks! REALLY reasonable prices!! Between $2.49 -$2.99 for chickens and guineas at 3.99 and turkeys and Ducks a little more.
You can select from 30 chicken breeds!!!! You have to order at least 25 bird though! But you can select from different breeds to add up to 25 chicks!
You have the option of just choosing from the varieties at the store too! Where you can buy 1 or a million LOL!!!!!
Im really interested in going tomorrow and looking at the Bantams and ordering several breeds of large brown egg layers!!! Giants, Astrolorpes and Doms!
Im having to really stop myself from getting Americaunas and assorted wyandottes!
Wow!! Order your Chicks from TSC!!!!
You can't buy just 1 here. You have to buy at least 6. They say it is a Ky law?
Our TSC also sells a minimum of six chicks.
Well I called to see what they had and they didnt mention a limit but I intended to get 10 , but they had already sold out yesterday. A new shipment will come in this morning. Hmmm wonder if I can get a couple of hours off to go chick shopping??
I will call them though and see if I can reserve some little cochin bantams!
We don't get all those exotic breeds. We get tubs of "mixed" bantams but Lord only knows what they are.
I Got 'em!!!!! Did I ever go over board!!! I was warned and I was in agreement about Chick entrapment......but ..... Just looky at these sweetie itty bitty babies!!!!
I got 6 assorted bantams, (I know two are white Silkies)
4 assorted pullets... I think a couple are Astrolorpes
and I couldnt resist.... 5 Americaunas.... they were a special for only $1.99 each!
I am doomed...first, I need to get a coop. (and find out if I can have them in city limits)
Wheee! They are so cute, little fuzzy butts make everything better. Have fun, Eufaula!!!
Meivatoo, it's so easy to get hooked. Hope you can have chickens where you live, it's nonstop entertainment.
Oh Heck, Melva, What they (the city) dont know and if the information isnt offered and you dont have a noisy Roo.......wellllllllllll..... just do it!! Hee hee!!
I have neighbors that love to complain about anything! And the best place for them, is right by the fence between our yards....
I may try some chickens who are known to be quiet....I want some ducks too...what sort of shelter do you need for them? what about Turkeys? (they would keep the cat in line, right??)
I like that pen! How hard was it to make? And what did it cost?
I like that pen! How hard was it to make? And what did it cost?
It was easy to make. I used a table saw to rip 2 x 4s and cut the 2 lengths needed for the project and the corner braces, 19.2 volt drill, pneumatic narrow crown stapler with 1/2" staples for the wire, and a pneumatic finish nailer for the corner braces. The material is all from scrap lumber and recycled 1" hex chicken wire, so for me the cost is zero except for nails screws and staples. My time is worth zero since I am retired.
I made six 2' x 4' panels. Screwed four panels together to form a square using two screws at each corner one near the bottom and one near the top. The two top panels are not attached but just laid across the pen.
Once the chicks are in the chicken coop and yard of their own the panels will be used to construct rabbit cages. Future purchases of chickens will be to purchase pullets just starting to lay for $10 that are readily available in my area. Unfortunately I discovered this after I had already an order for my chicks.
Thanks
Your chicks are so cute. Wish I could get some Americaunas. I want blue eggs.
That coop is really nice. Very well made.
I hope you are able to get some chickens. Muscovie ducks are good for the city because they do not quack. They only hiss.
I see a black roo in the first pic... and a partridge girl in the later picture.. pretty sure on that.. That partridge Silkie has a roo wing too, but I'm never right with silkies. LOL
They are darling!!! I love babiez!! :)
I have a friend who lives in town. Shes had a few hens and a roo for a few years before she hatched one of my pilgrim geese (mildrid) after mildred went to the grade school to see if she could join the class people started complaining about her poultry. She got rid of the roo and I now have mildrid the trouble maker, who thinks she should be able to go to school. My friend hid her hens away for a short time and it all blew over. She now has only hens and all is well so far. Just keep quite birds and keep them in your yard. Share your fresh eggs with your closest neighbors and i bet you will have no problems. Here is a picture of my friend and mildrid.
I lost one of the largest Pullets last night , but the rest seem to be doing just fine!
ZZ , I will try to get some better photos so we can see just what you think I might have!! I hope I got at least one Pullet in the Americaunas but we all know how the straight run chances fall!!
Cajun, I was hoping to get one Americauna roo so I can get an Olive egger out of my BCMaran Hen. I purposely selected dark and light colored chicks , so I will hopefully get a variety of Americauna color.
Those olive eggs are so cool! Speaking of Olive Eggers, have we heard from Rita lately?
Yes, i wish Rita would check in!! Can't wait to hear what she's cooking now.
My best guess is that they are all some kind of chicken. :)
That is a pretty safe bet! lol!
The black ones look almost like easter eggers or amercuana as one has green legs lol i cant wait to see them growing up
Well today I realized that the two white fuzzy wuzzys wuznt silkies after all!!! They are Sultans! Five toes and white skin and yellow beaks. Im such a dummy , that I was so excited when I bought them I didnt notice that they didnt have blue faces or skin! Oh well, whats another breed or two or three! LOL!! (ooooh my!)
Too cute!
The feather legs with 4 toes are probly cochins.I have 2 lil new cochin chicks that look alot like them
