For years I have wanted hens that would lay a variety of color eggs.
Have gone the expensive buy eggs, try to hatch an failed two or three times; this year I decided to go another route and just buy a mix of breeds. Hatchery guarantees at least 5 varieties. Today they arrived and are beautiful.
These are standard breds. I would have loved to get bantams who would have met egg color desire but am not sure there is such a thing; any way would have had to either use eggs or gone the mixed sex route and I can not bear to kill my males. So just decided to forget bantams!
Just wanted to share my excitement with some who understand what it is like.
25 rainbow mix pullets

Awww! Cute little fuzzy butts! Do you know what breeds are represented?

porkpal, they are a potpourri of what the hatchery sells. Guarantee at least 5 different varieties in mix of 25. That'll be part of the fun as I watch and ID what I have and will keep./
Thanks everybody, I knew you would understand!

I definatly understand. I have changed a few breeds over the years and love to hatch lots of diffrent poultry.Nothing brings a bigger smile to my face then a picture of fuzzie cuteness! they are darling and i cant wait toplay the guessing game. Weeeeee keep those pictures comming and welcome!!!
How about some new pictures of your chickkies?
Got these this morning from the post office. Yep, in the house or that is in the dog run. Might as well be in the house since the dog run was screened in and I enclosed it with twin wall polycarbonate so I could leave the doors to the two room open without getting bugs in the house. Also, with the polycarbonate the cold north wind is no longer a problem.
My chicks are mixed brown eggers....all pullets...hopefully. Got'em from Meyers.
Their pen is 4' X 4' X 2'. They seem very happy little chicks, noisy at first but quite now.
Mine from Meyers, too. The pens always look so adequate when you put them out of the shipping boxes; a week later, how did they get so big, so fast? Hope you enjoy watching yours as much I am enjoying mine.
I just love the guessing game! I hope you are having better luck, at guessing which ones are what, than I am!!
Yep I raised babies all winter in the house....NEVER again! The bigger they got the noisier and messier they got. Plus the fact that by the time I could get them out to their big chick compounds they were totally miserable for a while trying to get used to the outside and not seeing me as much! ( awww its nice to be loved!)
OK, the personality starts that may help ID what breeds I might have. One of the chicks is singing!
I thought all day it was our canary who is just outside the room, but I just caught her (twice). She spreads her little wings and lets go sounding like Crush (that's the orange canary).
She's not too chirpy here cause I just had to do some diaper duty! She is actually a very perky active little girl.
