Of the chicken heads, that is.
As a suprise housewarming gift, a friend bought me 6 laying-type chicks. Don't know what breed they are, just that they lay eggs and will be arriving at the beginning of April. Imagine my suprise. I wasn't expecting to even dive in until waaay after we were settled in the new house. Now I have to get two houses ready...mine and theirs! Will post more info when I get it.

How wonderful is that! You'll be a busy girl it seems. I'm thinking your gonna love the chicks and they will furnish wonderful entertainment no matter the breed. Your friend must really love you. We will be looking forward to some great pic's in the near future...Have a great day...Hay
Congratulations! They are a source of some major therapy to help you through the hard times of stress. :) Doesn't matter what breed they are. I'm happy for you!
what a wonderful gift
Turns out that my chicks are arriving a little quicker than we thought. They will be moving in the same day we do! They are Rhode Island Reds, which by coincidence is the same breed that I was going to order later on.
Oh goodie! RIRs are my favorite! You will be in egg city! Congrats!!
You really have a lot of great things going on!! Pictures of everything when you have time!
Sapphirestar: Did you read where ZZ's said RIR's are her favorite? Don't believe her, every bird that has wings is her favorite...LOL...However she is an encyclopedia of chicken information...I must say though RIR's are also at the top of my list also...Way to go girl...Hay
Weve never formally met Saphirestar, but Howdy and Welcome to the Ranks of the Chicken Lovers NOT-anonymous therapy group! Our therapy comes from encouraging each one of us to keep on " Chickening"! Ooooh RIRs too cool!!!
LOL Trouble maker!
RIRs are my favorite layer...
He's right though..
Welcome saphirestar! you will enjoy those babies! you will probly want to set them up inside anyway while they are small so you will have pelenty of time to get settled before you have to set them up in there own home. My guess is you will have them all named and know their personalitys by the time you put them out giggle. Have fun with them and i cant wait to see those pictures!
Thanks for all the welcomes!! On top of the other million things hubby has to do today, he is running to TSC for some supplies for the babies. They are going to hang out in the laundry room until I can get them transferred to somewhere safe. I am glad to hear that everyone likes RIRs (especially ZZ). I did a lot of reading about the various types of chickens and learned that those were easy keepers and good layers. I am going to hold a naming contest for the babies on my blog once I get them settled. I am the world's worst namer and had enough trouble naming my son (lets just say it involved lists). All the pets have either come to me named or someone else named them.
It's a good thing Hubby came with a name...LOL
I must admit that ZZ's, Annie, Eufaula, Green, Smedgekless, LFJ, Cajun, and all the rest of the Ladies are excellent with names. Just not me...LOL
