I bought a small, brown leaved EE last year from HD, I think the name was mocha. It has not come back yet. Is it too early or did it die? When do they normally began showing signs of life? Also, does anyone know of a good online source for these plants? I really liked the compact size and color and want to add a few more or replace the one I might have lost. I would entertain the idea of growing a different variety if it was of small size and didn't spread like the one I bought last year.

Elephant ear plant
Hi Cheryl :) My EEs are just poking up. Not all of them are yet though. I have 4 kinds poking up and still waiting on 3 others to show. Give them a little more time.
Ok, I will keep an eye out for it. This is my first winter with them so I don't know when they normally break dormancy.

I have a Q for you. I know you have various things in your classroom. Do you have a paludarium?
No, I don't know much about them, sorry.
I know, I know .... But Wally world is having the green EE's right now... Giant ones like the size of your fist.... $5.00 each.
I ordered some Black EE's earlier this month online; they'll be here this week.

Thats a pretty one but I really want the smaller variety. Guess I will have to wait and see if HD gets them in again.

I went out and cleared the area my EE is/was in. The whole plant came up and it appears the roots and most of the bulb has rotted. I cleared away the rotten parts and found a few small and firm bulblets that appear to have a growing shoot. Potted them up to see what happens. I definately need to find a source for this plant now. Next year I am digging them and bringing them inside for the winter. I can find large varieties online but not the smaller plants like the one I had.

Ive grown mine in pots but Im tired of watering them twice a day in the heat of the summer so mine are going in the ground this year this place has some nice descriptions of the different EEs.. I have not bought form them but just reading is interesting

Thanks for the link. Mine did great in the ground, I had it in a semi shady spot that holds some moisture. I just wish I had dug it up and brought it inside.
