small cannas

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I have 4 small canna bulbs. I had more but they didn't store well in a pot over the winter in my cool greenhouse. I need to know how deeply they should be planted. Should the top of the bulb be at ground level or how many inches below the top of the soil? I have a big wide copper bird bath (top only) that I planted impatiens in last summer and they did great. This year I would like to add a couple of other things such as the canna and some coleus. So that's my aim if the copper container isn't too shallow. At it's deepest in the center, it is about 5."

The top of the bulb should be at ground level or no more than an inch or so below ground level. Plant and water well to wake it up.....if it hasn't already awoken with some growth on the bulb.
