Cook Strait Giant Weta (Deinacrida rugosa)
I found a bug looking very similar to the bug mentioned above while camping in Mt. Hood National Forest outside Portland, Oregon. I am attaching a photo - any idea of what it is if it is not this bug? Note that it is missing one of its back legs that fell off. We found it floating, dead, in our wash bucket.
I can see the likeness. but I am unable to Identify it .

Boots, who was the brave person having that weta sitting on their hand? Those things bite!
No sure who that is......It was hard to get a turn, we all wanted to hold them . The Giants Weta are gentle (No one was bitten).. the trees Weta are not!! ( no one was game too)
Good to know. Thanks.
