Hooray!!!
The town approved our request to add to our chicken permit! We are going to go from 4 to 12 chickens!!! Gonna go chick shopping now, yay!
Gonna get some chicks!
Yay! What kind are you going to get??
Hi Annie!
So excited! We started last year with 4 EEs, who are the sweetest chickens. We lost the one who laid blue eggs, but we have the green and olive egg layers left. I'd like to get a couple more. My daughter wants to get 6 silver and gold sebright chicks. They would be her pets.
I will probably get some chicks from the lady who provided our EEs last year, maybe I'll get something different - I'll have to see what she has... any suggestions?
Ha! You'll get into trouble asking me - how about one of each breed?
I love so many of the banty chickens but can't really have them, we need to have big eggs and lots of them.
You're going to have so much fun picking them out!! Updates, updates!!!
Congrats on the approval ;-)
Tamberlin, no fair keeping us in suspense! How many chicks and what breed did you order?
Hi Annie,
still working on the order. checked with the PO - sure enough, they willl hold the chicks at the PO until you get there - in fact they had some there already cheeping away!
Now I have to find someone (other than My Pet Chicken) who will send a minimum order of sebrights for the kid.
Any suggestions?
Meyer Hatchery. They sell small orders, you can even buy one of each breed but it is a little more expensive that way. They will also do the marek vac.
I have heard that My Pet Chicken gets their chicks from Meyers and others. Cheaper to go straight to Meyers. Hurry and order already, the suspense is getting to me LOL
make sure to get the Sebrights vaccinated for Mareks Disease. They are highly prone to it up to age 6 months. I raised 1 mine hatched and it died at 3 months so won't hatch anymore of them myself.
Thanks for the advice on the Mareks. I'm still negotiating with a couple of folks to combine an order. News soon, i promise and pictures to follow I hope!
Do you love to torture us or what? LOL Guess I can be patient for a while longer, bet you're having a blast trying to deside what chicks to order. Hey that's a great idea combining an order!
Tamberlin, I'm so happy for you and I hope you have a blast selecting your new enlarged flock. What a great success story...Hay
Well, the rest of the order won't be arriving until the end of march, but Lizzie (my Daughter) and I couldn't wait so we went to TSC and picked up 6 chicks today. We have 4 Ameracaunas (most likely EEs but we don't care) and 2 Buff Orpingtons. Very happy with the little fluffballs. It doesn't hurt that the hubby got a raise and promotion today (long time coming too!)
Pictures soon - promise!
Celebrate with chickens!
YAY!!!! Congrats on the new babies! Pictures, pictures!
