Drimia maculata

Grandview, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi all :) I know somewhere on here last summer there was discussion regarding these in the ground here. Well I decided to try it. I am very pleased to say they came through our winter just fine and are starting to come up now. Woo Hoo!!! Does anyone else grow these here?

Catz ~ I grow D. maculata but keep it potted and provide winter protection. Good to know you had success with it in ground. The discussion about Drimia was on a thread Mamajack started if I recall.

Normally the Drimia bulbs grow on top of the ground. I would have thought these hard freezes would have harmed the bulbs if they were on the surface. Did you mulch yours for winter?

Hi podster :) I knew it was somewhere on here LOL

I kept several in a pot in the GH over winter just in case I lost them ;) Yes I did mulch them well also. I really like the way they look.

I like the looks of them too. And I don't blame you for saving a start just in case... 8 )

Thanks for sharing your experience with them!
