We recently had a water leak in our crawl space, which our son-in-law kindly fixed. It didn't happen because of the cold weather - it was just "one of those things."
Anyways... while I was crawling around looking for the leak, I couldn't help but notice how much room there is under the house! It got me to wondering if we could store root vegetables there during the winter.
Anyone had experience with this kind of storage?
Thanks - HB
Storing veggies in a crawl space?
You bet! I have a 77 YO neighbor who does this with onions and potatoes. His modular is skirted and any and all water is diverted around so underneath his house it is dry and cool in summer. He uses baby bed springs suspended from the steel floor trusses under his house. I've never a slicker setup for the home gardener.
What about rodents and other critters getting in? I live in a mfg. home with a crawl space and our HOA prohibits anything stored there. I had a mouse problem until I found and sealed the hole in the floor under my refrigerator where the water dispenser hose was. No more since then.
Thanks for the answers :)
Jo, I had thought of rodents, so will have to work on something to keep them out, but allow air circulation.
