potatoes in bags

West Islip, NY

Last year I tried the potato bags from gardener's supply. I used their yukon gold seed potatoes but the yield was not worth it. I did read somewhere that yukons don't yield as well as others. Do I try again or try something else?

At least you had an harvest.
I put my potato growing bags too close to the sprinklers and they all rotted !!!
I guess I need to keep the bags away from the water.

Bleepy,
Don't give up! Try, try, again. You can get some small organIc spuds from Whole Foods. You won't have to cut small ones up, long as they have at least 2-3 sprouting eyes each.

Situate them on top of approximately 8" of potting mix and barely cover them. Water in and let the vines grow up To about 6"-8", then mound more pottIng mix up around the vines leaving about 3" exposed. Repeat when they grow out again.

Very little (if any) fert or you'll end up with all leaves n no potatoes. Don't overwater either. Just evenly moist.

Check in again.
