I had found a fresh new ‘Satin Bower Bird’s’ bower. [in the Cold Goast Hinterland]
Which I had come across quite by accident.
It was about two miles off the beaten track.
So I decided to build a hide out of bush materials.
I used mainly Camphor Laurel branches.
Took me about one hour to complete.
I was sitting trying to work out where SBB might approach from the next day.
When I heard a loud rustling from the bush beyond the Bower.
Instinct made me reach for my camera.
As soon as I saw movement I started snapping Pictures.
This is what I got on about the 5th Picture.
It was moving quite quickly through the undergrowth. : -((
How and where not to set up a Hide.
Ugh Oh!
I wonder what Bower Birdies used before they had our litter to choose from?
Hi Gayle,
I have seen this identical Bird at Cunnamulla.
Cunnamulla is 1,000 kilometers west of me.
There is no blue junk as you call it out there.
So for as long as I have known. [more than 60 years]
They have collected white objects.
Unfortunately I have no Pictures of a Bower from Cunnamulla.
But I do have a Picture of “The Cunnamulla Fella”.
Turned out I had set up my hide on one of this 250 kilo Wild Boars paths.
When I found this Bower, I had been looking skywards for birds and nests.
I was quite oblivious to the very obscure track I was standing on.
If I had seen the Pig tracks in the first place, I would not even have hung around.
These Wild Pigs can tear out a calf muscle in a flash as they run past you.
This particular Boar had only one thing on his mind, Home.
He totally destroyed my hide and fortunately ignored me as he ran right through it.
I've read from a novel "The Thornbirds" that wild boars are a real danger to people . As you've mention they can easily tear out a calf muscle in a flash....are they a threat to people nowaday?
So this Bower bird only likes blue objects? Fascinating. Thanks for the info on where NOT to set up a hide, ginger....I'll make sure to avoid wild boar paths!
What part of Melbourne are you from GP ?
Are you a person who builds Hides ?
Because I was sitting on the bank on the left of my hide I survived this runaway Tornado.
Had I been in the middle with a tripod, the Boar would have hit me dead centre.
I probably wouldn’t be sitting here showing these Pictures right now.
I took a few more Pictures of the Bower and left never to return.
I did see and Photograph a red dove on my return trip.
I’ll show them later on in this Thread.
Just kidding, Ginger. I live in Melbourne, Florida, not Australia. No wild boars here, have to go out in the woods to find those. Glad you came out of that unhurt.
Love those shiny berries on that plant. You know, I bet you scared that Boar too!
You know that is exactly what I was thinking at the time.
In my last Picture of the Boar.
He is looking straight ahead.
Not looking at me at all. [thank God]
It appears he is concentrating on finding and following his path.
I had no time to feel or get scared at all.
It all happened so fast.
Wild Boars aren't scared of anything. Even Tigers think very carefully about taking one on - they'll only attack a Wild Boar if they can catch it unawares.
Resin
I got treed by a wild boar in Germany. Holy Hannah was I scared!!! I was afraid to come down in case he was hiding and waiting..or if he had any buddies in the area. Really nice lady with a truck got us down lol
That must have been terrifying!
That dove is so beautiful!
Yup, there were 3 of us in that tree, and 1 guy in another. I have NEVER climbed a tree that fast LOL
LOL, dog or boar?
It was one of my Horses.
But it did give me a fright at first.
My goodness! It'd me too. Glad you're home and safe.
Just found this sound track on a site I have not seen before.
