Check out her new outfit.

Conroe, TX

I don't remember if I ever posted this, but this is Chick, she is a RRI and she used to be solid red. She molted a while back and came out to be speckled. Check out that tail, I love the colors on the tail. Wonder what made her colors change when she molted.

Here is another picture. By the way, I doubt that was the first time she molted since she is almost 6 years old.

very pretty pattern, I have never seen a RIR that looked like that. Very pretty girl though...Looks like she just stepped out of Kohl's...LOL

yep, she is really 6 years old. She was attacked probably 4 or 5 years ago and got a nasty wound on her side. It healed up, but leaves her feathers sort of sticking off on that side. You can see the little poof of feathers on the second picture. Whatever attacked her tore her thigh up pretty bad and killed another hen. We think the other hen, who was fiesty, may have come to her rescue and ended up getting killed. But this one is spoiled rotten ever since then after she spent some time being pampered back to health.
It was a shocker when she lost her feathers and they came back like this. My son brought her in and said :guess who this is" I had no idea. But there is no doubt it is Chick, because she has the wound on her side.

Haystack, lol, just stepped out of Kohls.

ZZ too funny, I didn't even think about her "getting gray"

I spent about an hour looking at different flocks of RIR's and could find none at all that had even one that looks anything like your. She is exceptional it seems...Hay
