Any idea of names?

Harrison Valley, PA(Zone 5a)

I just purchased 2 beautiful african violets and the only name given to both are: Saintpaulia. These are really beautiful and the undersides of both plant leaves have a gorgeous red/burgundy color. The other looks the same except it has a slight pink instead of the slight purple here and also has the red/burgundy under leaves . Thanks for any help

This is the other one and sorry it's on the blurry side...I really need glasses and that won't be for sometime.

Those are very pretty. Congrats on finding them :) I hate to tell you this but there are thousands of A.V.s out there. They will always be a NOID but that doesn't take away their beauty. I have several NOIDs and love them just as much as my named plants. Sorry we can't help you with that one.

Thanks for all the help. They really are beautiful and it isn't a problem if I have no names, just thought that putting a name to them would be an added bonus.

We can try,but as Connie said,it's almost impossible. There are more than 37,000 registered violets and many others that aren't.If there was any kind of tag in the pot it would be a starting point.

There was a tag and had an web site but it didn't show me anything other than for businesses to sell their products but couldn't get in to see prices, pics etc. The tag just said African Violet Saintpaulia and the min. temps they can stand and grown in Canada. The web site was www.woodhillgreenhouses.com

Well, you can narrow it down to 1 0f 20, per their website--and there is a phone # if it is that important to you. Most AV-er's started with a "Noid", and accept their role as perpertrators of the African violet hobby, though they shall always remain nameless. ;-)
I love my noids!

Forgot to post the pic of my latest noid, recently bought to celebrate the move to my new coop home.

Beautiful color!
The names are not that important to me...it just would have been an added bonus but not important. With African Violets, these and daylilies are all new to me, I had thought for years they were all basically one or two colors and that was it. Needless to say...I slap myself now! lol

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

LOL! I've been looking at daylillies since last summer myself...I'll stand in line for the slap! hee-hee

LOL...ok but I hit myself hard!
This summer i should have some daylilies grown enough to split some up that I could trade with you if you are interested? Most are noids but i do have Joan Senior and Becky Lynn. If your interested, let me know :)

I don't recognize your AV, but I love the purple eye and the way the yellow pollen contrasts. My first AV was a NOID. I went online to try to identify it and got hooked when I saw all the gorgeous blooms available. Good growing.

blue.... ...does your bloom have a pink shadow in the center? Someone said they were opt. Darlin' or maybe Darling series but I never found any info on that. If its on the website I never found it there either

All of the others Woodhill carries are Optimara,so you are on the right track.

Hi Lilypad, yes the one A.V. has a pink shadow that blends into white as it spreads away from the center, it's just like the purple shadow A.V. I didn't know how blurry the pics were until I put them in here.

Contact Holtkamp Greenhouses..thats Optimara. They should be able go give you names. My friend and I bought these -white with pink, me and my friend the white with purple. It was at a plant sale of the Tn gesneriad club. One of their members who works at the greenhouse brought them to sell. When you find out, let us know

It does look sorta like the new "My Violet" series that Optimara has come out with. Tish, remember they had them for sale at the national convention. I bought My Dreams. Here is a link to the picture that Mermaid (Anne Marie) took.

When it gets cooler the center color gets really small.

meag, that picture was beautiful! When it warms up here, i hope the colors spread out like those! The temp inside the house is about 60-65 degrees so maybe that is to cool for them, only time will tell.....I hope they turn out like that picture, that was amazing! Today I plan on taking a few leaves and repotting them for my sister. When i went back to the store a couple of days later, they were all gone!

Tish, I will contact them and ask. Thank you very much and everyone else here for directing me towards what to do.

Mel, what a great pic she took. Yes, that is definitely what we bought. It is usually not easy to identify the Opt as so many look the same...but these are a bit different.
