I know this image is not crystal but the effect was intentional when I composed it. I have searched native flower books and non native books to try and find what this is. The leaves look cool too which is a plus since the flowers were the size of a small pea!
Well now that it has been identified as a variety of Dayflower I can quit trying to search for it.

Help Please?
Do you have any photos of the leaves or the entire plant? Did you try to dissect the flower to see how many petals it had and what their shape might have been? It would help.

What about Sabine River Trillium?
Is it this: Dayflower (Commelina erecta) http://2bnthewild.com/plants/H65.htm

I have thousands upon thousands of old stock photos to try and look through and see if I can find more of this plant. To my memory I only shot this one cause of the Macro effect I could achieve based on the position of all the elements at that time. Unfortunately when I shot this I was only a photographer and not a grower...
It is now that I see pictures of past flowers growing on our land in Van Zandt County and desire to know the names so I can recreate the effect at our home here in Frisco. I am still searching and searching to find the name myself so thanks for taking the time to respond.
Robin- I can see similarities with the Commelina erecta and if I can find a spent flower of this variety I am sure I can place it better. The leaf pattern of the Commelina erecta is very similar to the picture I have I just cannot quite place the way my picture looked when it was open.
There are some other commelinas, if that seems close but not quite right...
Nope not Viola but some type of dayflower. Still looking for the match.

realbirdlady I think you have nailed it! the viola picuters I see are close but the leaf pattern of Commelina caroliniana is dead on to the picture I have as well as Commelina communis. Problem is Commelina caroliniana is not a native of Texas or even the United States rather India and Bangladesh and Commelina communis is Native to East Asia and Southeast Asia, Considered a noxious weed in the United States! Bummer, I really like this picture and really wanted to find it as a Native wildflower of Texas.
Oh Well I still have a nice picture and I can plant some E. Texas Violets instead.

realbirdlady may be closer to IDing your photo. When I started looking I headed in the viola direction, but none of the natives looked exactly like your photo. Take a look at the upper left hand side of second photo in this link: habitat photo of Commelina erecta. The spent flower looks much like yours. According to the links I viewed, it can be found in Texas.

There is a subspecies: http://uvalde.tamu.edu/herbarium/coera.htm
What threw me off was your mention that the blooms were closed during the day. We have at least 2 different day flowers species on the ranch and have seen both open during the day.
bettydee I found several of the Commelina that realbirdlady lady suggested and realized that my pic. is a variety of Commelina.
Thanks for all the leads and many thanks to realbirdlady and bettydee.
Yeah, your welcome!
