I NEED SOME HELP?

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

For sometime now I have had serious pain in my shoulders especially my right shoulder. My rheumotologist says I must have surgery on my right shoulder as it is very painful and the injections no longer work so on the 27th of this month I'm going in for an MRI on my right shoulder to determine what is to be done. Have any of you had this surgery ? Please tell me about it, pain and recovery time as I don't want to miss my future tomato sesson. I hope you will forgive me for putting it on this thread but most of my friends and EBers hang out here. There is some risk as my health is kind of dangerous for surgery but the pain precedes all that as it is brutal.
I want to clean up the tomato vines and some of the rotten tomatos that our frost killed so I can re-set my EBs for watermelons. I want to grow the Crimson Sweet as last year I had a fantastic 50 lber that my loving grandson cut off before it was ripe thinking that he would surprise me! Well he sure did. He weighed 68lbs and carrying a 50lb melon scared the daylites out of me. He reminds me so of my younger days as I was a bull of strength.
I must re-arrange the EBs and that means they must be moved and I am on tylenol w/codeine at this time and can feel little pain but I must remember my limitations or I'll make matters worse. Best fact about melons are that they need little care and provide great rewards. All I do is spray them three times a year with the Ortho products insect and virus spray, and stand back and watch them grow.
My son's back is getting better so perhaps between the two of us we can do the job. If not -- I really don't know as I can't afford to hire someone and again they would be pretty hard to find in my neighborhood. We'll see!!

Oh, TPlant...sorry to hear surgery might be in your future. After you have your MRI, your surgeon should be able to give you a better idea of what needs to be done to your shoulder, and what the recovery time will be. There are so many types of surgeries they can do--everything from arthroscopic surgeries to fix small tears, etc, to total shoulder replacements.

Having had relatively minor shoulder surgery (they removed a spur that was causing my rotator cuff to tear, and remodeled my shoulder socket), and knowing several people who have had more complex procedures, I can tell you that the rehabilition is rather long--you have to be really dedicated about doing your physical therapy afterwards. Depending upon the type of surgery, there can be some pretty strict weight-lifting restrictions.

Keep us posted, please. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

TPlant: Did he say what procedure and exactly what the surgery is called? I don't mind doing some research, I'm sorry to hear about your shoulders, am keeping you in my prayers and thoughts that you will get better.
