I have noticed this year that the wind is back in season and blowing and gusting. I am branching out this year to grow many more Flora varieties as a side project. I am going to be harvesting flowers, petals and leaves off of many of the flowers I am growing but I need them to remain intact and whole.
Will these stiff winds beat my poppies, echinacea, Calendula, and Borage to a shredded pulp?
Blown to bits!
You might want to build a wind brake or screen for those plants if you need perfect flowers.
I guess I will have to plant them in the back yard then cause cannot put screens out front. Of course I can just build another raised bed and cover it with a canopy made of 40% Sun Blocker instead of the Greenhouse film that I am using now. It is getting time for me to change the covers on the cold frames so I will convert them all to Sun Blocker.
Thanks
The wind WILL destroy the poppies and blow the flower petals off. Echies and borage handle it just fine. Can't help with the calendula, but I do know it works best to plant in the late summer/early fall.
