Encouragement for a Diabetic.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi All,
My dad, only 60 yrs old, has been in the hospital since June. He is a diabetic. He went in for a check up and the doctor didn't like the way a scab on his foot had healed. The doctor cut the scab off. This led to a series of infections and more cutting, down to taking out tendons. My dad had his first heart attack and stroke about ten years ago, but it didn't seem to cause too many problems and he was back up and on the run. Well, in an effort not to amputate, the opted to put him under anesthesia and cut more off the sick foot. This caused another heart attack. At this point, they did a heart cath and found blockages. So, they knew he needed bypasses and they also knew the foot had to go. So, they did a quick, barely under anesthesia, lop of his foot, gave him a few days to recover and did the bypass. It turned out that he had 9 arteries, 90% clogged. Now that the infection was gone and the heart was better, they finally finished the amputation to the knee. Then he got an infection in his chest from the open heart surgery, that had to be reopened due to a bleeder. While all this is going on, he comes down with fluid in the lungs, which had to be drained. Now he is in surgery, having his lungs drained, and 'blown up' because of partial collapse and they are also doing something to keep fluid away from the heart. With all this going on, we have nearly lost him several times this summer, he has had many surgeries, several heart attacks and strokes, been on life support and has lost about thirty pounds and his leg. At this point, he is pretty down and depressed and has kind of given up. He has been in the hospital for months, in rehabs and even in a nursing home for a bit. I am wondering if anyone else has been through anything like this, or if anyone could offer him some words of encouragement. I would be glad to print this out and take it to him. He could sure use some good news or something to look forward to. We are hoping to get him well enough, that he could come live with me for a while, until he can build up his strength and get his new leg. He is a man of great faith as well, so prayers would be welcomed.
Michele
