Low temps vs. Var. Privets: will they make it?

The Colony, TX(Zone 8a)

These plants always thin out in the winter, but mine look really bad after this cold snap. Is there any way to save them? I told my hubby that we may need to cut them back drastically and see what happens. Any other comments or suggestions will be considered and appreciated!

I think if it were me I wouldn't cut them back until I was sure the branches were dead. (Unless you were toying with the idea of replacing them anyways, in which case, sure, seize the opportunity.) ISure, the leaves froze, but they can grow new leaves without too much trouble. Maybe just be a little extra attentive, make sure they're mulched and get proper water, but give them a chance to leaf out in the spring.

What kind of Privet do you have ?
Josephine.

It's Ligustrum Sinense "Varigata" aka Chinese privet. I have 9 plants in my yard- all are 6 ft x 6ft or larger and the most exposed leaves look singed by the cold.
And Josephine-please look for a D-mail from me on another subject: the trades list. I'm unsure of what to do...thanks, Suzq

Thanks for the advice, realbirdlady. We'll see how they do.

btw- I figured out how my very old trades list reappeared. Yesterday I went to PlantFiles to look up the botanical name for the red yuccas. Today I went to the same for the botanical name for the privets to give to Josephine; now both plants show on my trades list, the privet even had the pic above on the trades list page. I just deleted them both, but how are PlantFiles and trades list linked?

I really don't know how or if they are link, you may have gone there from your tradelist area, but i really don't know.
Your privet will be fine, they are very hardy.
Josephine.
