By "Bug" , I mean I get the shakes and my hand wants to click on the Specials and the one day only notices, My other hand wants to reach for my Credit card and I start salivating.....
Okay ,..who else is getting the Hatchery email Bug?
ME I see those Blue and lavender orpington eggs on ebay and want to order, but to early and cold for me and no broodys right now.
I think the lady needs some antibiotics...or maybe some credit card scissors...LOL.
What a relief to know the salivating is normal!!! In an effort to control the urge to buy more chicks all the cataloges were tossed in the trash - boy did that hurt. I'm even going to cancel the Meyers order. I have 12 BCM, 10 blue Ameraucanas and 2 lights sussex from Hodges coming later this month. Also 10 Wheaten Marans from a breeder in early March. All 34 are straight run. I'll be happy to get a total of 10 girls from it.
I guess I don't need the (14 total) sexed Golden Comets or Black Australorps from Meyers, or do I????
I've been looking at catalogues, too. It's time to reserve some chicks for the spring; a couple of years ago I left it too late and they were out of what I wanted. We go for twenty-five straight run chicks of a noticeably different variety each spring, and butcher out the oldest and this spring's cockerels in the fall. This year I'm thinking about Buff Orpingtons...
I did the same with my catalogs, TRASH!! then I turn on the computer and check my Email...there they are just lurking waiting for me to spy that cute little Chick or that big old rooster just knowing Im going to open that mail........today Ideal hatchery offered a one day only bantam assortment for $1.50 a chick....Waaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Giggle! My friend and I were talking today as we were checking on our new egg orders and trying to wait to candle the eggs we just put in on sunday. We were thinking we had an addiction and the 1st step is admiting that.Whew what a relief! Now that i have admited I have a problem, could one you others in this group please hand me a catalog as my bators are full so its onto live chicks! giggle
Yeah, the hatchery e-mails too... they're ususally for meaties or bantams which I have no problem passing up. I love the bantams but need to have chickens that lay big eggs.
I am not looking, I am not looking. I repeat I am not looking if I plan to stay alive because hubbie will kill me. I still haven't told him I bought a Trio of Silver LF Ameraucana(Jonh Blehm line) at Christmas with shipping for Valentines our Anniversary. He still hasn't gotten the cages done with this crazy weather
I'm having trouble reading this. My husbans has taped a huge NO sign over my computer screen.
I am no help... I will not enable... I will take no pictures until it is time.. LOL
Jyl, how's it going? Is your farmlet up and running again? And WHY does your husband have that sign on your computer screen....?
Ooooooh Ideal has Modern Game.....................Lets see ... I can get a couple Japanese bantams.. a couple Moderns....a couple ,noooooo 6, Cuckoos.....I really need (want) some light Brahmas...........s-s-s-s-sh-h-aky hand reaching for the mouse.....
He knows it is almost chick time. We did order a few and some turkeys last year. Then someone gave me more turkeys, then I got in a batch of wild turkey eggs...(you can see where this went). We ended up with a whole lot of turkey and there is still a 50 pounder waddling around the yard. I want silkies and ameracaunnas this year. SOmeone gave me three silkies last year, but they were all roosters and mixed with something decidedly NOT silky.
As for me, I just leep my head low and my fences high.
Wise advice for us all.
Hi Jyl!! Long time no see! Glad your back. :)
I almost got into turkeys last year... I would have liked to have a few to butcher..
I don't look at the catalogs.. no way.. Or I'd have silkies and more Modern Game. If you want chickens to snuggle with... Modern Game are the ones! They are not fluffy though.. they are "hard feathered" so they are really solid.. LOL All the more reason to love the lil weirdos..
edited for spelling..

I've met only one little Modern at a friends house... It was instant love! That little fella would follow us around and then come to each person and stand on your shoes wanting to be petted or picked up! Ever since I have been looking for my own! they are the Cutest little things. Where Seramas are regal and demand respect for their carriage and beauty, the Modern game just evoke instant love because of their funny gangly, awkwardness . You just want to Mother them!
Oofie ,save your money for junking . lol
Turkeys are super easy and once you get over the idea that they have to be butchered to cook whole. You can put a lot of meal sized packages in the freezer. Our first year we put over 100 pounds of meat from 4 birds. I now make everything from burger and sausage to jerky from them.
I love silkies for snuggling. I had a friend bring over a woman she cared for who was in the late stage of MS. She was confined to her wheelchair, so we had tea and cookies in the yard instead of the porch. Of course the silkies joined us. My husband came home from work and here are three women (one in a wheelchair), sitting in the yard with silkies snuggled in their laps. Bless his heart. He didn't even think it was strange.
Awww, JYL that is so sweet!
Digger, dont worry Im saving up!
I see on another thread , you caught a possum . There will probably be more , so keep the trap baited . I'm loving all these pic. of everyones babies .
