Hi Jamie,

This one has me smiling. It is called Outer Limits and I just found that new ones I am growing from rooted cuttings have started to bud.

Hi Lynn,

I am guessing that is an Episcia. Can you tell me which one? It is very attractive. Thanks.

Thanks Earle. It is Episcia 'Debary's Ember's'. If you would like to try it I will start one for you.It is easy to grow and doesn't need super high humidity like the light pink ones.

Thank you, Lynn. I would enjoy that. I will make up a list of AVs that I have coming along over the weekend and DMail it to you. You will be able to choose what you would like in return. No rush deciding as the weather here in NH is not suitable for shipping plants. Barely suitable for people! 4 below zero this morning.

Thanks Earle. There is no rush.I need to put down starts of lots of things. It's way to cold to ship right now.....Episcias anyway.

Hi Lynn,

It's OK. The longer we wait, the larger the selection will be. I just started 8 runners from Ramblin' Silver and two from Ramblin' Firedance. Both very nice AV trailers. Of course, it's snowing outside while I do this.

Earle,
It's starting to snow here too.I should have some AV and Episcia babies and probably a few other things.I Just need to dig in and start some things and divide others.

This one definitely makes me happy -- my first chimera, AV 'Glitter Surprise'. As I understand it, this is a sport of 'Halos Aglitter'

Lynn -- I would love a start of your gorgeous episcia. And I'm pretty sure I've got some things in the works that you might like too. I'll drop you a line. Thanks! -Jan

By the way, Lynn, since this is not the first time Ive seen one of your episcias that was really something, I'm sure all of us could benefit from hearing how you grow these beauties. I know I could! That is, if you're willing to divulge any of your "trade secrets" -Jan

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Jan,your Chimera is a beauty,
Thanks for your very nice comment about my Episcias, but I really don't think I grow them as well as many here.Mine are treated just like AVs,letting the soil dry slightly between waterings.
My only 'trade secret' LOL would be if you live in areas that are cold and dry in the winter, they often benefit from wrapping plastic around the stands or putting a dome with the vents open over them. You need to water carefully if you do this.Exceptions would be plants like Fannie Hague, which seems indifferent to humidity or those like Cleopatra which I keep partially domed all year.I will add you should remove stolons (and pot them up for extras) until the leaves grow to the size you want and also even though they are known as low light plants, they bloom better with a little more light.

Okay everybody. It's time for you to post your gorgeous Episcia plants and growing tips.

Lynn, the leaves on your episcia are gorgeous. No burn or dry spots anywhere!
Earl, That fantasy flower is lovely. I need to add some of those types to my collection and get rid of (too many) pinks!
Jan, That combination of stripes and outer edge color is nice on your chimera!
'Spin Art' got another bloom and is now my favorite plant, even though she is so young. Fingers crossed, she'll live through the summer.

You got it Jim!! Nice to see you here ^_^.

@Jamie -- Spin Art is just cool. Those streps sure will hook you -- once they start blooming -- wow! I just adore mine.

@Lynn -- I didn't know about removing stolons.  Seems like I've got some things to learn before I really have the hang of these episcias..  I think so much of growing a particular type of plant involves watching, messing it up, and slowly learning the "feel" of it.  Especially with watering.  But, little things like "remove the darn stolons" are so important to pick up just to give yourself a fighting chance! Thanks ...

Jan,
It doesn't hurt to leave them on,but it helps your plant grow stronger when it's small.Once it gets big it doesn't matter. You can pin some down in the mother pot and make a bigger basket full.

Lynn
