This has become a healthy addiction.

I don't know if you remember a couple of months back when I was looking for good AV sellers to start my collection. I also got my first AV from Home Depot and was told to cut leaves and blooms. Well I'm going strong and boy am I liking it. Here are some pictures of my collection so far. This first one is the bottom windowsill.

View from the other side. Those little white cups at the front were leaves that I got from a generous Dger. She sent me 13 different varieties of leaves which 8 have produced new leaves already. Not bad for a first timer AV propagator. I think

The ones that are coming next are some of my favorite whites with colors. Including one that I think might be a chimera. Please let me know if I'm correct. It produces bluish purple, white and mixed color blooms.

Great job Roly! You have some really beautiful plants! Are you using any artificial light or just the natural light that comes in the windows?

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

And then I've got this white with blue picotee.

And finally this white with pink of the tips

Thanks !!! I really enjoy seeing the plants grow and bloom. I'm using natural light. Sometimes I wish I had less when I grew my lady slipper orchids indoors but now that I've got the AVs it's perfect.

And here is the other windowsill where the rest of the plants sit. These I've got about 2 weeks ago and they are already getting really big. It doesn't look too bright because I took this last picture the same day that they arrived and it was in the late afternoon around 6ish but they get a really got amout of light there.

Great looking plants and display. Where did you get the long trays that are under your AV's? I Think I have the same stand, but I can't find the long trays. Lou

Great collection Roly, you've earned your Gessaholic tittle (good one Lynn!)

If you look through some of the old posts, you will see many here have tried various "12 Step Programs" and many others to overcome this addiction, but were too far gone to quit.

Thanks everybody !!!
Hello my name is Rolando
I'm 23 years old and I am a Gessaholic

Support group: Hello Rolando...LOL

The trays I got at Home Depot. These are the bottom trays of the box planters. Here they sell them separately and I fill them with pea size peebles. I water from the bottom by capillary action that way the leaves won't get damaged with water spots.

Great Growing!!!

Oh wow Rolando! I just love your collection. I will also have to go to our local Home Depot. I definetly want the tray like you have. The pebbles are a great idea, too.

Thanks everybody. It feels good to share the rewards. A month or so ago all I had were bare plants and the leaves that I received from mrsbonie. Now time has gone by and boy has my collection grown. And I enjoy seeing them. Sooooo many varieties to choose from. Now I need to find one with pink, white and green spotted foliage. Any suggestions ???

Go to avsa.org and scroll down on the left side to photographs. You will find thousands of gorgeous blooms there. Be careful. You can get lost in there and never want to close out of the site. Your want list will grow LOL!!

Your plants look really nice. Thanks for sharing pictures! I really enjoyed seeing so many in bloom.

Now that you have quite a few plants, always remember to isolate any new plants...its tempting to set them on the shelf with all the others, but its really disapointing if you add a new plant only to find out later you have a big problem with all the plants!

Your collection looks well organized and clean. I can't help but notice the beauty you have growing through the window to your backyard. What outdoor plants do you like to grow?

Quote from jamiew :
What outdoor plants do you like to grow?
I like anything and everything that can grow in my area and even stuff that I push to grow (zone pusher here) What you can see through the window on the left are my Amaryllis that I bought last fall and bloomed and now they are producing foliage. To the right I've got bearded irises that I bought on eBay a couple of months back (The lawn service people keep cutting them back) and then what looks like a vine up a metal pole is actually a Blue Jade vine that I got. What you can't see behind the vine are 3 water container with Sacred Lotuses. This season's leaves haven't come up yet. They are putting out their first new leaves now. I also have 2 different passionvines that are for my Gulf Fritillaries and on the front yard I've got my small but colorful butterfly garden. Thanks to different DGers that have sent me cuttings and seeds I'm beginning to have a real garden. Hopefully one day I'll have a no mow lawn and it would be transformed into a meadow.

Sounds like a dream yard to me.^_^. I have really slowed down outside the last few years....just too hard to haul things in for the winter. Now I mostly grow annuals and perennials.

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

Lynn if it wasn't because of work and school I would spend more time outside than I really do. I'm one of the new geration gardeners. I still have a lot to learn. I would love to live someplace where I could grow tulips and daffodils and hyacinths and all of those cold loving bulbs and plants. However I try to do the best with what I have. Like I purchased clusiana tulip bulbs about 1 and a half moths ago and I have them in the fridge waiting to be planted next weekend. I have hopes that somehow they might make it and naturalize since they grow down to zone 9. I'm a little guy with big dreams.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

I am sure you will make those dreams come true for yourself Rolando ^_^.Maybe someday you will teach everyone in the warm zones how to grow cold loving plants!!

Montgomery, AL

It makes me feel happy that there are those in their 20's to carry on and even improve horticulture heaven! Way to go Roly!!! Your description is dreamy. I'd love to see a picture of those lotuses when they bloom.

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

I would love to get to see them blooming. They bloomed last year but the flowers gots ruined by rain and water while I was working. I grew them from seeds last year and they bloomed on their first year. Luckily my neighbor took a picture of the flower open in the afternoon before the rain and gave it to me. By the morning when I went out to see it all that was left was a bare stalk :(
