In the Spring, I put out a varietys of suets, bird foos and berries. All I ever seem to get are Goldfinches and Sparrows. Every once and a while I will get a Bluebird or a Blue Jay. Anyone have any information?
Tips for getting birds other than Goldfinches and Sparrows
Why just in the spring? Do you also have a water source?
You might want to try to find information from your state about which species are found in your area.
Here's a list from last years Backyard Bird Count (held each February) for Hammond.

No, no I just meant that I start seeing more birds in the spring. I keep everything out year round. I am in the process of putting up a birdbath in the yard... I'm sure that will help.
Thanks for the link :)
Hmmm... I think they may have the Pine Warbler confused for the Goldfinch. This link shows the differences / similarities.

Here is a pic of one from today:
Hmmm... the Backyard Bird Count doesn't show ANY finches. They show a bunch of Pine Warblers though. Do you think I may have the Warbler instead, or do you think the BBC may be wrong?
I think that's a goldfinch because the wingbars are really dark.
Here's a link for your state's listserv. That might give you an idea of who is seeing what.

Hi JLP. The number 1 thing I can suggest is to make your own suet. I have a recipee I use from the Cialis website which can rock the bird kingdom. As for seed feeders, I now have a large bird mix and a small bird mix of seeds. Small bird mix includes hulled sunflower chips, nyjer seed, and a small finch seed mixture. Big bird mix includes black oil sunflower, safflower seed, peanuts, and cracked corn. Hope this helps.
LOL. "sialis" not "cialis" (erectile disfunction)

I would be interested in knowing your area too. Unfortunately I don't get tufted titmice here in town, nor do I get bluebirds, which is a good thing given the house sparrow population. Maybe there aren't enough natural food sources in the area for birds, so they are not happening upon yours.
Thanks for the help ladies :-)
Mrs_Ed, what information would you like on my area? Sorry...
Ha. I meant… if it were me, I'd be interested in finding out what was in the area (bird wise).
Oh... haha :)
Not that I don't care about your area. LOL. Do you get lots of hummingbirds?
I understand, and yes, I get tons of hummingbirds and butterflies.
My daughter and I raise Monarch, Black Swallowtail, Suplhurs, GIant Swallowtails, Gulf Frits and even a Queen last year.
