Hi everyone! I'm new here as of a little over a week ago, and I was wondering if anyone had spare daffodils or blueberries...those are the two plants that were important to me growing up, and I just bought my home from an elderly man who thought landscaping was just mowing the lawn! If anyone has any to share, it would be MOST appreciated! Thank you SO much...Maria
Wanted:daffodils/blueberries for a newbie
They are in all the box stores now - it would be cheaper to buy them locally than to pay shipping - it's getting too expensive to trade common plants and such, with shipping costs what they are.
Thank you for the reply...unfortunately they're not even close to being out here. I'm jonesing to dig in dirt! : ) Thanks again...Maria
Maria,
Try your local hardware store in April/May for blueberries.....I bought 7 new plants last spring for $9.99 each at Lowes. Then at the end of Aug./1st of Sept. they marked them down to $6.97 so I bought 5 more. In the spring you have a better selection of varieties, in the fall there were only 2 varieties left. Here is a picture of the size plant you get, and the ones planted in the spring produced berries that summer...not alot but i got enough to go in my cereal. :)
Wow, Pixie, those are beautiful plants! I will have to check there. Growing up my father had at least 15 different bushes on our property, some were over 6 feet tall, all varieties, from early harvest small, more tart berries, to late harvest, the size of your thumb, sweet berries. Nothing was better than walking out in the morning with your bowl of cereal and plucking a handful off and throwing them in! Thanks for the advice! I'm just so hungry for spring, I'm getting antsy! : ) I'm sure you are, too! Thanks again...Maria
Your Dad sounds like my in-laws which is how I came to grow them......this is what I have here in Maine. I get BB from July to late Sept.
Patriot (High Bush Very early)
Duke (High Bush early season)
Jersey ( High Bush Late season)
Bluecrop (high bush mid-season)
Bluejay (High bush midseason)
Northcountry (Half-high early -mid)
Northland (high bush early-mid)
Chandler (High B mid-late season)
Chippewa (half-high mid-season)
Elliot (high B. Very late season)
Very nice, Pixie! I've heard you have to have several different varieties for them to pollinate. Is that so? What would be the best few to start with, maybe some that will bear quickest?
Patriot (E)
Blue Ray (E-M)
Bluejay (M)
Bluecrop (M)
Elliot (VL)
Chandler (M-L)
This should get you a long picking season and all are hardy...the only one im not positive about is Chandler. We will see how it does this spring, it is hardy to z5 but I border z4b so some things don't make it. This winter will be the test. ^_^ If your a z6 of 5b you should be fine with it.
BTW Maria, my cousin lives in Manchester too :)
Thanks for the info. I am in zone 6, as far as I can tell. That is too funny that your cousin lives here, too!lol! Small world! Do you ever make it down to visit? We had a friend of ours that moved from here to Maine last winter. It's too cold there for me: ). Who is your cousin, I might know them. Thanks again!

The name Edgerton sounds really familiar, and I might even recognize her face. I tend to not be so great with names, but never forget a face. Manchester is a great town, it has the small town feel. When you go somewhere, you run into people you know. It's definitely a great family town, too...everyone tends to watch out for everyone's children, the street in the summer turns into a playground, and I consider my neighbors friends. It comes in handy when you're short 1 egg! : ) Thank you SO much for the chart! I'll definitely need the information. I just hope you didn't have to type it all by hand! If so, bless your heart!! Thanks again, and have a great morning! Maria
