This bird was foraging on the ground in a heavily wooded (pine and some hardwood) park about 75 miles NNE of Houston, TX. As best I could tell from the distance, it was smaller than a Cardinal and larger than a sparrow if that helps.
I'm still looking through Sibley, but haven't found anything that resembles this.
I would appreciate any thoughts on what it is.
