I am new to ponds. I put my preformed pond in the ground last summer and purchased a solar pump for it. It worked fine during the day when the sun was out. As soon as the sun went away, it stopped working. This year I am putting the pond closer to the house so I can have an electric pump. What I need help with is what pump to purchase? I don't want to spend too much either. It is approximately 100 gallons. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

which pump to buy? help!

You would need to turn over 1/2 the volume of your pond in 1 hour. A small 50 gph pump from a reputable company would work well. Perhaps a small pond master.
Thank you Carolyn! =D
Carolyn gave you excellent advice. I like Pond Master pumps best. Try and get the most powerful pump you can afford. You will be happier with the most flow, and can always easily control it if you want.
Can you suggest a website where to buy one ?
Do I need a water feature?
I've bought a few things from Pondbiz.com and was very happy. Here is a link: http://www.pondbiz.com/
Yes, you should have some type of fountain head that attaches to the pump. You can find kits with the pump and fountain head(s) together.
Your goal is to keep the water moving a little bit to help with the exchange of gases. Not too much, though. And if you put in water lilies you need to place them where the water is the calmest.
It is a very rewarding hobby and you get back every dollar you put in, in my humble opinion.
So I need a pump and a fountain head. Do I need a filter? Tell me what I need and I will look at all the stuff. lol. I will have to go and see if the library has a book on ponds. I appreciate any help. Thank you.
Many pumps come with a sponge filter and that should be good enough for your size pond. Look through all the pumps for sale and read the descriptions carefully.
A book on ponds would be an excellent idea.
Thank you for all your help! =)

I agree with Dave - another great company is Dr. Foster and Smith - just google them. Their service and customer support is the best. Also if you go to Webbsonline.com they are very competitive in pricing.
Let us know how you do.

That one looks great. Get the whole thing for only 71.99 plus shipping and you will be all set. Looks like it is a great site, too.
Thanks for both your input! =D

Please post another picture after you have your pond all set up this spring. I'm looking forward to seeing what you will be doing with it.
Have fun planning. :)
I will take pics and post them. 49 days until spring! =D
