This is the new addition to the Zoo Crew.. his name is Ranger.
He is in charge of Farm security and harassing the Chi Herd.
He's half Pyrenees/Australian Shepard and a really big goof ball.
We're in training and will be a cart dog if all goes well.
Right now he likes chasing butterflies and birds. lol

Peaches from our Peach tree.. .the first week we moved to the new house everything was ready to pick. There's peaches, plums and pecans trees here. Hopefully there will be a veggie garden in spring. They were sweet!!!
We were so busy moving in the coons & birds got most of the plums!

Another of the 'survivors".. Rob's Humpty Doo...I had to chop it up and make several plants because it had grown so out of shape. That's ok cause maybe someone will do a trade in spring???

. . . . did I hear the word trade . . . . ?

Where did you move to/from, MsC? Weren't you in TX before?

Nichole

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Hiya Nicole,
Yes,you did here trade..should have a good batch of trade plants if all goes well.
If not plants there's always leaves.
We're still in Texas (I won't live anywhere else ever again...lol) we just finally bought a house in the country.
We were living in the city of about 80,000 in a small rent house and I hated it! Now we live in a small rural town of about 500 or less???
We looked for about 4 years till we could find what we wanted and could afford.
We had to compromise cause we're not rich.lol
Very happy these days.:)

Sally !!! A kindred soul... don't ya just love your lil parrot! I had one named Taz..he was a stinker. Used to get into the macaw cage and pester Tiki.lol He talked but it was so saft ya really had to listen..does yours talk???
Your pup is adorable!

Thanks. My parrot is a tiny Parrotlet. 34 grams. She is hilarious! Here is her house. She flies all the time though. The door is always open....

That's one spoiled bird! look at all those toys!
Your making my guys jealous...
Very nice.
Mine only get freedom now& then when I can keep an eye on them...the macaw can eat the house before you can blink..The African Gray does sneak attacks and flies like a rock.. When the macaw was younger he was always out, but as he has aged he is a lil harder to handle. The African Gray is hubby's and they're one person birds for the most part.
I'm hoping to build a summer outdoor space for each of them down the line.I have the perfect space just not enough money or time with the other renovations going on.
Time to make rounds & train the dog..more later

That is nice, Gran. pictures are needed. ha

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Gran! They keep my life full of fun.
Feel free to post pics of your crew, too.
I thought the thread would be a good way to get to know me, for those on the forum who don't already & a way to share some of my favorite things with everyone who does...
I know we all have other interest besides AV's. Seemed like a good time to share it too since we can't really share trades & plants etc...I can't wait for spring.

Oh and I checked my baby box today..I have lil Av;s popping up finally! Mostly trailers~ my favorite!

Hi ladies, thanks for the lovely pics, all of the crew members are just adorable, I really enjoyed their stories too. MsC, now tell me more about the macaw's and Grey's voice, please! I'm asking because we have a conure parrot and he IS LOUD! But I always admired macaws, well, maybe some day......

Sally, you have the cutest bird and she has the cutest home I've ever seen!

Will be back with a picture or two,
Maria

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

LOL my sister has an African Grey-- they are definately 1 person birds-but so smart. Stormy lived with me for a few months until my sister got her home built--I didn't have to feed her(thank goodness-- my sister came and cared for her) -- just live with her and cover/uncover her . That bird hated me, every time I walked by her cage-- no matter if it was the middle of the night and pitch dark-- she would make a fart noise. I swear she didn't hear it from me!!

Northeast, MO(Zone 5b)

LMBO!!! That is sooo funny, Tommie!!!

Connie

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

Sometimes those birds are really something, ain't they? lol

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

I am loving everyone's darling critters!! They are so cute.
Tommie,a friend of mine had an African Grey, who was older and very tempermental and would bite. The first time we were introduced it went berserk and woudn't stop flying around the cage and squawking. My friend said "He doesn't like your shoes.Take them off.' HUH?? So I did and he got quiet and even let me stick my fingers in the cage LOL.Animals are so funny.

His wife took care of the Cockatoo or Cockatiel who came and went freely around the house. She was out of town on business and Gary could not get the bird to drink any water. It kept flying in the kitchen and perching on top of the fridge. He finally got worried and called Kathy. She had been putting an ice cube in his water. That bird was smart!!

Lynn

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

It amazes me how smart parrots are, they think and reason so well. I read somewhwere that having a parrot is like having a perpetual 8 year old. Stormy while she was staying with me would get mad if I didn't cover her on time. She would start out with "Ready"... then 5 minutes later....Ready.....then READY!...READY! and if I didn't come then.... .READY GO NIGHT-NIGHT !!!!! calling me a name I can't repeat here. I couldn't handle or feed her-- she tried to eat me-- having been biten by my Yellow-Naped Amazon-- no thanks!

(Zone 1)

MsC: Love all your lil' critters and Ranger is a handsome fella for sure! I'd love to hear about his training. Cart dog? It sounds like a great job for that breed, they are very active aren't they?

Yum ... those Peaches look so good!! Are you going to make a pie? I'd love some vanilla ice cream with fresh sliced peaches mixed in. Gee ... I'm getting hungry!

Rob's Humpty Doo ... even out of shape it's a pretty AV!

Sally: I've seen pic's before of your cute little pup and your little Parrotlet before ... adorable, and your little bird sure looks to have a nice home cage!

I love critters but we are down to just one (almost 16 yr old) kitty and a 150 gal salt water fish tank but I don't consider the fish as pets really. We've had a few birds in the family as well as cats, dogs and fish. When we were first married we had two parakeets that we named Tweety & Sylvester. Tweety didn't live very long but Sylvester lived to be almost 13 and learned his name and would come when we called him. According to the vet 13 yrs was unusual and a pretty long life for a hybrid parakeet, he said 5 or 6 years is generally the life span for them. We had Sylvester bird for about 3 years when we adopted a stray kitten and since the bird knew his name we named the kitten Tweety. Because of the cartoon everyone used to tell me we got it backwards, that Tweety was what the bird should have been called. I'd then explain that the bird already knew his name. Tweety the cat lived to be 24! My husband once had an Indian Ringed Neck Parrot that did not like me at all ... that bird would bite me every chance he got ... another of those one person birds I guess. We had him for @ 8 or so years and then got to working such long hours we gave him to a lady who had a female. She thought he was too old to breed but put him with her female ... they took to each other right away and ended up having a couple of broods.

My husband always wanted a Cockatoo ... can't remember which one, but it's the large white one. They are beautiful birds but I don't think we will add one to the family any time soon. I want a dog!! ^_^

I remember years ago my husband coming home from a pet shop and telling me about a parrot of some sort that the pet shop owner was taking care of for a friend who was on vacation. While he was bird sitting he took the parrot with him to work every day. My husband said it was so funny because whenever someone walked in the door of the pet shop the bird would start yelling "Help, let me outta here", "Help let me outta here"! The owner of the pet shop had a parrot of his own that whistled the tune to the Andy Griffith Show! Some birds are so smart.

We had 5 cats in our family for awhile but are down to just the one old gal now. This is our cat "Princess" that we inherited when my mom passed 6 years ago. I've always said her name should have been "Queen" because she sure runs the household!

My slly tiny parrot loves to chirp while I sing. She likes it best if I just turn off the TV and SING. She sits on my shoulder and we cuddle and sing. I sing to her and try to read to her before she goes to bed in her sleep cage. Then we turn on her music box and cover her. ONE time I forgot to cover her and she corected me! HA. She is very tiny but super smart. I teach her words for everything I do.

Oh, I am going to add a picture of yesterday. Hubby was checking on me as I tried to walk Trudy with my w.chair. I can walk, but not that far. The blood doesn't stay in my head. So that doesn't work. I can walk into a restaurant etc. Not into Target, around a groc. store etc. Anyway, here is the picture.

Hiya Ladies,
Just popped in to try to keep up.
I love all of your stories about the animals in your life. Thanks so much for sharing.

Parrots can really be a party all by themselves! Ours are very smart. The African Gray knows all the dogs by names and he corrects them for me...he'll say " Hey- Hey get off !! Right now!
"Ok Everybody kennel up!" In the morning when I turn the lights on They both say " Goood Morning" in a funny lil parrot voice.
He's just learned "Ranger's" name and is really giving it a workout. You can hear him say Ouch_ Ouch Stop that, Stop it!!" Ranger is nipping at us, just puppy play but the the African Gray corrects him.

Sally I always share my new African Violet with the African Gray... he seems to appreciate them and says "Pretty".

Tiki the Macaw likes to dance to "Santa" music..he really likes rock n roll..its so funny.

This thread turned out to be a lot of fun!

Sally, I had no idea you were in a wheel chair??? Maybe you need a cart dog..
Ranger will be starting his training in few more months. He has to finish his basic obedience first. He's doing well for just being 6 months old. He has to have a job and he should do well.
Our Blue Heeler -Rio is the resient cow dog, she saves Mom form the nasty cows cornering me when I'm bird watching out in the back pastures. She's excellent for taking out in the field and she's helping train Ranger. It's a lot of fun.

Critter. I can walk. I just cannot walk far. With POTS (Postural Tachycardia Sydrome) the blood doesn't get up to your head. Causes a lot of symptoms. I am improving. I wouldn't know what to do with a big dog. I love my little bitty dog.

I am improving thankfully. My wheelchairs are SUCH a good tool.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Sally, I'm so glad you're improving.
If you had a big dog you could use him as a "steadying cane" or even pulling your wheel chair. If all goes well Ranger will be trained as a true companion dog. For me, he helps me get up when I get down, he can pull light loads and move things here on the farm that I can't. He seems to love to work. I love my Chihuahua's but they aren't much help.
I think I'm gonna train him as a garden helper cause he can dig a hole in nothing flat..lol

South, TX

Ha, holes in my yard would not please me. I miss gardening, but hubby and the landscapers make it all pretty for me. SO COLD NOW, I hope we don't lose much. COLD in TX

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Yep, it's freezing here, think it was 22* lastime I looked. We lost power lastnight and woke up to no electricity~ no hot water for hubby & no coffee for me! Not happy...we will be looking into adding gas here for sure.lol
Ranger is a big baby right now. He's 78 lbs of fun... he's just 6 months old and doing very well with training. He digs & chews a bit,but not too bad and he will stop if I tell him. I don't have much of a garden here yet but I'm considering some type of fence to keep the dogs out of the pretty garden part.He doesn't bother my Av stands so I consider hime a good boy..lol

I need to add some landscaping her real bad. I only have a few rose bushes and some bulbs. I really want to have some tall evergreens and then I want a hummingbird butterfly garden out back.I do miss my tropicals but I guess ya can't have everything??
Ya gotta post a couple of picks of your landscaping for me.?

Love the rabbit, we have tons of them out in the back 4 acres. It's kinda wild out there and hubby saw some coons as big as a dog. I love to walk out there and watch the wildlife.

Oh those camelias are beautiful! You did great .I seem to think they're fussy??? Are they?

South, TX

Not really, if they are happy. We had one at the other house, it never grew much. Soil was not right I think. This one is in a container with good soil.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Thought I'd share a pix of one of my Chi's. This is Angelina and one of her babies (2.5 weeks old). This litter is an accident-- but the cryptorchid (and I thought harmless) baby daddy has an appointment with the vet! If anyone needs a chi puppy (or 2) plmk!
