my celeriac has germinated after waiting 20 days.
first time growing celeriac
I read it was hard to germinate and to sow extra seeds.
I read it would take 2 to 4 weeks to germinate. I sowed lots
and lots of seeds and now have lots and lots of seedlings to transplant into
individual small pots.
It will be difficult to grow also but supposedly easier than celery.
It does not like our hot summer heat.
It does not like for its shallow roots to be disturbed and must be
kept seperate from veggies that will be replaced throughout the growing season.
The best i can do is grow it where it will get afternoon and evening shade. Can also
divide the sfg bed with a 1x6 placed deep into the soil so that the roots are not disturbed until harvest time which is best after first frost.
what i do not know is= how long you can grow it in small pots before setting it out into the soil beds?
Can it handle cold weather if covered during frosty nights?
details please if you have any
Celeriac
One of our market growers grew celeriac last year. I will ask him Sunday at the market how he handled his seedlings and if they were out in the cold. We had a freeze last year in January. I do remember he said it took lots of water.
I've been so curious about celeriac, I have never eaten it, yet I really like celery. I may just need to get a few seeds and try some out. Good luck on growing it. I like the challenge of growing new things.
i found new information.
goin to be more difficult than i realized and i have already germinated the seeds
so i have to keep forward with it.

so celeriac is ready to harvest in about 120 days. That's 4 months.
not sure from which day it is ready to harvest from----sow date, the date it germinated, or when it is transplanted.
at any rate----if it is goin to be ready in 120 days from the day It germinated, mine will be ready in May.
Far from any frost dates. lol.
So if I really want to do this better---I need to count backwards from first frost and try this again. Sow 1st July = for me.
The north should be able to grow celeriac with no problems at all.
