My first attempt at washing a chicken!

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

First was to take baby Silkie and place into warm water in bathroom sink. Add baby Shampoo. She seemed to like it just fine, very cooperative!....Oh yes I put a handtowel in the bottom of the sink for her to stand on.

DD started washing her chickens from the beginning. They love it. I'm not sure why you would wash a chicken, other than before you throw it in a pot (lol), but she thinks it's important to bond with your chickens and give them spa time.

Bonding is certainly a good thing! But getting a dirty butt clean after being covered with poop is a good reason.

Of course opinions vary as to what the Chickens think! My little girl o the left says AHHH I am so beeeutiful! The little boy on the right says, " Im am so humiliated"!

Pic # 2 looks more like a white (blue jay) sorta funny looking but bet they loved the hair dryer. We, (wife) had to wash one of our seramas that had an injured foot with a build up of poop on it's foot. The bird did not seem to mind the warm water at all and limped for a couple days afterward but is now doing very well. Hmmm maybe thats what I'll tell my next chicken victims that are going to the soup pot...Your going to the chicken Spa...That'll make em smile...Hay

When Claire got attacked by the dog a year ago, the vet told us to give her a bath, to wash all the blood off. I said ok, then went home and could only think of "Madder than a wet hen". So I called the vet back and asked them how do you do that?

Did you see the video of the little silky hen who adopted a litter of new born bunnies? It is so cute. The momma bunny went into a chicken coop and had her litter in a nest box. The little silky decided she wanted to be a momma, so she sat on them. The momma bunny comes by every day to feed them, but the rest of the time the little silky sits on them, and pecks at anyone else that comes near them.

If you are going to show them, that is great training.. otherwise, I probably wouldn't wash unless it was really bad or a health risk... but that's me. :)

Silkies are the ultimate mommy.. I've gotta go see that video.. sounds awesome!

Oh believe me ZZ a bath was very nessessary!!! they had decided to "dust bathe" in wet bedding and poop!
I found that their waterer was leaking and had created a pool of yuck! So they ( just like a couple of 3 year old human kids) decided ooooh what fun and wound up crusted with poop and bedding !

LOL Like when the dog finds a super stinky pile of something and just wallers in it!

(Zone 6b)

My labrador dog used to roll in cow patties and I thought he was nuts. Then I read it is an old instinct to mask their scent for hunting. Guess that was before Walmart.

I take the easy way out. I just cut the poopy feathers off.
They are very sweet looking Eufaula
