Anyone know if you can prop them from a leaf? I have one that survived my Av night mare, but has an extremely long neck. I already polinated all the flowers for seed but was hoping for a faster fix for babies.
Thanks
MsC
About those cute lil Chirita Tamina's???
You can propagate a chirita from a leaf just like an A.V. Good luck :)
Connie
Thanks Connie!
Some make babies pretty quick and others take quite awhile.
Lynn
they also seed real easy too
Thanks guys! I have 2 ~a Chirita Tamiana & an unidentified one I lost the tag to. It was a free gift when I purchased some streps a while back. When I was cleaning off my shelves I found this baggie underneath it and inside was this plant growing. I had forgot all about it until we moved. When I found it it was half grown & had a baby to the side. Right now I'm waiting for the blooms to open so maybe someone can ID it for me. Seems like it's taking forever...any suggestions on getting them to open??
Thanks
take a pic
Well Jim!! It's so nice to hear from you!
thanks and ive been thinking about you too,,got something to send you soon as it warms some
JIM
Jim, just take your time. We are getting more snow Tuesday. For pete's sake this is NC!!!
You could be lucky and it will bloom yellow (well, lucky if you like yellow that is). The plants like that seem to take a longer time for the bloom stalks to grow out and it flower. Where the tamiana seem to bloom quick. For me anyway. I have not tried this with the tamiana leaves, but it has worked with other chirita leaves for me...you can cut chirita leaves in half (horizontaly) and root both the stem end and the cut end. I had a large leaf of Chirita White Magic I tried this with and had lots of babies grow out of the cut leaf part...I took it for a show and tell at a gessie meeting and gave them all away.
Snow is coming ... again. This is the south! YEA !!!
tish
Wow! Thanks for the info Tish!
It seems like I've been waiting forever for the flowers to push up & open.
I'm more of a " instant gratification" kinda grower.lol
Now lemme' tell ya I have cut AV leaves into itty bitty pieces at the veins & had them grow, much like we do with streps & begonias...think it will work with Chiritas???
MsC
I just have to say what a gorgeous chirita! It makes me want to ignore mine too.
Haha.. if I had paid any attention to it, I would have probable drowned it.I tend to over water everything!
Chiritas do well with less water, less light and less heat...well too little water and their bloomstalks will dry up..and you might have to wait a year to get bloom again if they are the once a year bloomers! I went to a seminar on Chirita and they said that cutting the leaf in half works and is the best way to propagate a lot from a leaf. I just not sure about cutting the veins, but I'm thinking Thad said he had success with that...so go ahead and try it and let us know if it works for you.
Wow!...you did that with an av leaf? I need to try that...it would make a really good show and tell for the violet clubs..and the gessie club too.
Lottie!!! Hi !!!! Nice seeing you again ^ _^
Ladies,
Thanks for the info lilypad. Chirita's never really did much for me, they just don't compare to AV's. I have to give them credit for survival though..tough lil guys.
This is the 2nd one I had, the 1st one I grew til it was about 6 inches or so & then I over watered it...killed it deader than a door nail.:( We'll see how this one fairs.
Morning Jan, So glad to see you here, too!! It's nice to be back on DG's. If things go well I'll have lots of pics to post.
MsC
Can't wait!!
Tamiana's seem to grow and multiply if you give them any encouragement at all. I think they run around at night after the lights are turned off and stick their leaves in all over the place. Just a theory.
One of the easiest (for me) to grow and flower.
Pat
MsC. Did your Chirita bloom yet? I had two plants of Chirita 'Aiko' a few years back and that foliage on your plant sure reminds me of Aiko ... she's a big one, and has really beautiful Yellow blooms:

Hiya Linda,
Thanks for asking...Nope it's still just sitting there. Wish it would do something, otherwise it's just taking up good shelf space I'd rather have a AV trailer sitting in..lol
