Spots on EGGPLANT leaves

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

Those are my Eggplant seedlings. I have started them mid December with the Peppers.
Some of the plants have yellow bottom leaves.
Do you know why? and what I need to do?

Not sure why your leaves are yellowing (and from the pics you posted, they are yellowing overall, not just the bottom leaves...)

When I grew my bell peppers last January, I added 1 teaspoon of Epsom Salts and 1 teaspoon of MG water soluble fertilizer per gallon of water at each watering. I had the most brilliant, healthy green seedlings I ever grew.

Bell peppers and eggplants are water and nutrient hogs...almost like cabbages...

Just be careful of too much nitrogen, or you'll end up with lush plants with not a lot of fruits...

Will be ok to use SEAWEED?

Charlotte, NC(Zone 7b)

drthor - your brown spots are what I call "water lesions"

http://www.gardenguides.com/81278-pepper-plant-disease.html

I hope this is not your problem.

I find it's more likely to occur if there is a big difference between day and night temperatures.

Thanks HoneybeeNC,

Drthor, I've never used seaweed. I don't know how to use it.

Central, TX(Zone 8b)

My understanding of seaweed is that of providing trace elements, not as a fertilizer, rather an additive to a fertilizer program. Once your seedlings have true leaves they need dilute fertilizer or they will "starve" for lack of nutrients; sterile seed starting mixtures (usually) only have enough charge to get the seeds sprouted. Overall yellowing could be a water issue and/or lack of nitrogen. Bottom heat is needed to sprout seeds and once they're up they need slightly cooler conditions. It is possible for leaves with water droplets on them under grow lights to develop that sort of lesion - sort of a sunburn.

Ms. Tommie, who are you, really?

You ROCK!

Are the spots spreading in size and/or location?

I go with over-watering and a nutrition problem.

DrThor, from what I see your lower leaves are yellowing but yet the new leaves are nice and green, a classic symptom of a N deficiency or uptake. This can happen from not enough N (of course) or from waterlogged soil. What I see though are new leaves darker than older leaves so am leaning towards you following GG's advice, feed those boogers a little treat, just a little now! (It could also happen from a nutrient imbalance but I assume you have very little fert in your seedling pots at this stage.)

Ditto on what someone above said (MsTommie?) about the water drops and the grow lights. Water lesions, as Honeybee mentioned, won't usually appear until anthracnose spores contaminate the plants; keep in mind anthracnose can be carried over in seed but if you got commercial seed that is seldom a problem for seedlings at this stage.

Congrats on those tomato seedlings! I think you're gonna have a great garden this year!

Sorry, I wasn't clear. My response was to his problem with yellowing BP leaves. His tomatoes DO look great!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Linda, my response was to his pepper and eggplant leaves, too, regarding their problem. Response to his great looking tomato plants was to keep his hope and satisfaction level high! *grin

Thanks y'all.
I have give the plants a little bit of Seaweed and they are looking great.
I think next time I am giving them some Liquid fish emulsion, really high in N.

My peppers also look much better. Leaves are darker.
Also some of them have flowers already !!

Very nice, indeed!

Flowers already? They are precocious little darlings. I'm so glad the problem wasn't anything major.

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

yes, flowers on my peppers ...

THAT is a pretty picture...

Congrat, DThor.

I'm one of those that would pull those flower/buds off. You really want to see top growth and root growth right now, then let them flower once you've planted them out in your garden. Allowing the reproductive stage to kick in while the plants are still small/young will slow down size/growth and reduce your harvest.

Aw, shucks. I didn't want to say that and burst his bubble, but, yeah, I would snip 'em off, too.

Now, LAST year, I was just as excited as you Drthor, with my beautiful peppers with buds on 'em, just like yours. But, I've learned (over this past year) that what UberShoe just said is true. You'll have stronger, more robust seedlings to set out into your garden, if you let them concentrate on bodybuilding first.

In return, they'll reward you with stronger, more robust fruits!

Hugs!

Linda, you dawg, you! UberShoe... I'll never forget your definition of an Uber! *grin

Shoe, who keeps staring at my mini-greenhouse/tray hoping to see pepper seeds declaring, then starting more in a week or so.

I bow at your feet sen-say...

How do we know drthor is a he?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Cause we defaulted to the male gender and he never said he wasn't?

Drthor. Are you a he or a she?

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

I am a she ... giggle ....

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

You're enjoying this aren't you...ME, TOO! ^^_^^

And, are you a Doctor? What kind?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Drthor,
Checking in. How're the eggplant leaves looking lately?

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

Gymgirl, thanks for checking.
I removed the yellow leaves on my eggplants. I fertilized them with Seaweed and woila' !!
The leaves are dark green and the eggplants are growing.
Thanks for y'all help.
