Hey, neighbor! I had never heard of black currant datura until your entry. It's beautiful and the fragrance sounds heavenly. Thanks for introducing me to yet another plant I can't live without :-)

LOL....well I'm going to start going thru some seeds from two years ago to see if I can happenstance across any...are you going to do any seed starting this year?

So glad you found some. Do you know if daturas self seed in our zone? I collected lots of seeds from the candle bush (senna alata) that I bought at the Florence flower show. I plan to get them started in mid Feb - I'm also wondering if they self seed around here. Tom's been out of work for 10 weeks (seems like 10 years), but he should be back at work soon so I can resume my obsessive spending. I plan to sow some mesclun lettuce seeds next month. I'm afraid mid Feb is a tad early, but the Clemson ext website says mid Feb is the proper time for sowing lettuce seeds in central SC.
Per palmbob's advice, I've been busy pouring daconil fungicide on many of my pindos and european fan palms that have already developed crown rot. I will never again use overhead watering around my palms. I'm also trying to figure out a way to protect the emerging buds from moisture. What they really need is lots of sunny, hot weather. Take me away, calgon!

germination for Dat's can be pretty long for some so am unsure if they would bloom if they did successfully self sow...the seed heads are super easy to harvest...I have extra of many if you'd like to try your hand at them... double yellow - Queen Metal, single purple Lilac LeFleur, double white un named from a round robin and I actually have enough of the triple -Black Currant Swirl

I also found tons of seeds from a DG seed trade last year so I am going to do winter sowing for hibiscus, tenax, monarda, 3 types of coneflower, poppies, canna's, panacarda and a few others just to see what does best - got the garden cleaned out today, heat mat is ready inside for the Datura's (I find they germ much quicker with bottom heat)

anyways, my one son turns 18 tomorrow so decided to wait until Tuesday to get all my trays set up in the house, hot tub water is changed and ready for the high schoolers to show up lol...rock band getting hooked up...so tomorrow should be a great day, of course Miss Clairol will be coming for a visit Tuesday I'm sure when all is said and done LOL

Happy birthday to your 18 year old son! And he still helps you around the yard - what a terrific young man. You must be so proud of him - definitely an occasion to party hearty!
I have poppy seeds from last year - I go crazy buying seeds every year, many of which I never get around to starting. I could sow some around an elevated area with poor soil, which I've read they prefer. Ofcourse I've never heard of some of your seeds, but I'll be googling them. Meanwhile, party on, Garth :-)
