What to plant in my new terrerium :-)

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

My DH is a tropical fish nut. His big 55 gal aquarium sprang a tiny leak and now it is mine to plant whatever I want in (thank you Santa!). It has lights and a fan so all I need to do is decide what environment I want and pick out plants.
I am thinking about interesting landscapes with jungle-ish or mid-evil forest type of feeling. I have a rough idea but would love some in put and direction suggestions.
I need some help.

Last summer I threw some sedum and a few H-n C's into a pot tray and this is what I got..

Look up vivariums on the net and you'll find lots of recommendations.

I like your hen n chicks / sedum saucer. Plants can be grown in just about anything. My DGF's son saves his capri-sun juice packets for me. I cut the top off, poke a hole in the bottom with a skewer and use them for starting seeds. :) Repurpose anything possible. In one of the tropical garden threads, I saw someone using an old wine rack for plant support. Great idea! I'm gonna steal it! I've got an old wine rack, and now I know what to do with it. Now that I think of it, I have an old coffee mug tree that would look cool wrapped in plants.

I love being a member here again! Good luck with the terrarium, i've seen pics with pools and waterfalls built up along the back. I don't know where your leak is, but this project could get complicated. Minnows, frogs, snails.... Again, good luck and have fun!

I've been researching plants to put in it but there is so much information out there. I think I will start out with just plants. I don't want to add any small critters, at least not at this time.
EG Clematis "Apple Blossom". She starts budding here when the dafodils bloom. Late february. Only 7-8 weeks away!
