Do I need to prune this cactus?

Quepos, Costa Rica

This is a beautiful type of cactus that gets a few nice red flowers. It is getting bigger REAL fast, and im not sure if it is wise to cut it. Also, any ideas as to what it is called?

Candyce, did you try this in the plant ID forum? I'm certainly no expert on cacti, but I'd start looking in the huge cereus genus, or related genera of about 15. I'm sure there are cacti collector sites that have pics of them in bloom, too.

Columnar cacti are often cut and grafted when tiny, but that doesn't mean they all do well with it. And if you have a lot of humidity, it might be detrimental.

Make sure it's very well drained during your wet season. It looks good and should do well.

Just let it grow, it will be amazing!

I think I will take your advise and let it be....it is very beautiful. Thanks for all the great advise.

That's not a cactus, but a Euphorbia. No need to prune unless getting too top heavy and in danger of collapsing. Just be careful if cutting it.. full of very iratating gooey latex- don't get it in your eyes!!

Are you sure Bob? Milk plants aren't angled like that, right? Cereus or Dragonfruit?

guess it depends on which plant in the top photo you are referring to

Kula, HI

Both of the plants in the center of the top photo are euphorbias. Just 2 very different kinds.

I guess I do not know which plants in the oringal photo you are referring to... the fruit on that plant in the second photo did not come from the two main plants in the first photo... there are too many plants in the first photo to know which you are referring to.
