(blood curdling scream) AAAAARRRGGGGHHHHH
I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS WEATHER!!!!!!! (stomping of feet)
I feel like i need to break something .. maybe put on a hoodie and go mug mother nature .. Now we have this huge arctic mass moving in. It's never going to end. (kicking the couch)
Raise you hand if you want to cancel winter.
Hissy Fit .. Bear with me please.
Hand raised.
Maybe I should turn the weather channel on????
Looks like our highs will be around 50 for the next 7 days and maybe one night with frost. Doesn't look that bad for us but it is still cold for my tastes.
It's just plain miserable for me .. grey days no sun .. can't even go out to the greenhouse to get warm because there is no sun. I'm really getting tired of this.
I agree. Not happy when it's not warm out. Then, no sun. Are you kidding me???!!!!
It was 39 and windy here this morning, definitely not good dog walking weather. Supposed to go down to 31 one night over the weekend. What a miserable winter. The only up side is that I don't have anything left to freeze, the worst possible damage has already been done.
These gray days give me the blues. It's cold and windy today, which will make it feel like temps are in the high 30s. Tomorrow the high will be 40 with freezing night temps through next week with a wintry mix on Monday. It's awful.
Oh Jeeze! I just saw the weather .. sunday night into monday we are either going to get freezing rain or snow here in the low country .. I just can't take this.
it's time to start drinking...
Indeed. I am so glad I work at home .. I cannot begin to imagine what driving to work on Monday morning will be like if it's even half as bad as they are predicting.
Yikes! The weather channel is forecasting an ice storm Monday with a high of only 31 here in Sumter. I'm already having issues with crown rot in some of my pindos. Being without power for a few days would probably be the kiss of death for my wrapped and lit out of zone palms. Hope accuweather's forecast high in the upper 30's on Monday beats out the weather channel's forecast :-(
Just checked TWC again and the high is now forecast to be in the upper 30's. Catastrophe averted!

Donna - excellent!
I'm biting my fingernails waiting for the 11pm news .. seems like the forecast changes every 10 minutes. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you donna and for me .. if we lose power here I'm really gonna be up a creek - I'm wracking my brain trying to come up with ideas to keep the greenhouse from freezing if that happens.
X,
You stayed up that late? Lordy, I was in bed a bit before 8! I guess I'm not as wild and crazy as you!
Barb
I usually stay up til 2 or 3 .. that's when I work .. the internet is faster and I don't have phone calls interrupting me.
Say what?! Now accuweather, TWC, and the national weather service are all forecasting a nasty wintry mix for the midlands with highs at or slightly below freezing. I fully expect (and dread) my power going out by midday. My dad, who lives across the road from me, said he was without power for 2 weeks when the last ice storm struck - I think he said it was winter 2004. Must get out today to buy cold cuts and propane for the outdoor grill. Really hoping my out of zone palms can get through a couple nights below 20f w/o warming lights. I think you'll be ok, Barb (fingers crossed.) Hopeful for you, too, madam X. Duh, just realized my enclosed, heated backporch, which is chock full of tropicals and rootings, is also at risk if the power goes out. I feel a panic attack coming...
I have a bad feeling I may be dragging plants out of the gh and bringing them into the house .. I do have a kerosene heater and filled up all the jugs yesterday.
I wonder what is in those heat packs you buy to put on achy backs. When you open the package and expose them to air they stay warm for 8 or 12 hours depending on the type. I have also seen pocket warmers with the same technology for sale in ski areas. What is that stuff????
Ardesia you are a genius! I hope they aren't too expensive!
I found this about how they work:
When a hot pack is crushed, the plastic layer keeping the water away from the chemicals is broken. The water and chemicals mix together to produce an exothermic reaction. Exothermic reactions create heat through the mixing of water and the calcium chloride or magnesium sulfate. Hot packs can reach temperatures of 194 degrees F.

They little achy back thingies are very expensive. There has got to be a way to use the technology though........
lurking here......this is for ardesia's zip code but you can put in any zip and get your local weather. i've found this site to be very accurate. http://www.weatherforyou.com/cgi-bin/hw3/hw3.cgi?nc=config,forecast,pands,country,daysonly,maxdays&forecast=zandh&pands=29920&submit=Go
Hi Debi "-), you know who is watching TV (what else) and an emergency freeze warning just came over the screen. I do not like this one bit. I had intended to drive to Charleston to hear Tony Avant speak tomorrow night but that is not going to happen with icy roads.
i don't like the sound of that at all.
picturing "you know who" eventually sitting in front of a whole wall of televisions (like being at circuit city)! lol
Ready for spring! We have had a lot of the white stuff this season. This weather system coming monday into tuesday makes me nervous. Our worst snow storms seem to always come from the south.
They are now predicting heavy ice and accumulation of ice for us. The insta heat things ARE very expensive .. I have a wireless thermo/hygrometer for the greenhouse and a base station in the house. I've set the alarm for it to go off if the temperature falls below 39 degrees in the gh. With the heating system in the gh so far it hasn't gotten below 43 degrees so I figure if it gets down to 39 that means the power is off. I've got my little Radio Flyer wagon ready and the snow boots ready by the back door. I've even made a list and a map of what I'll grab first and where it is in the gh. That's about all I can do for now. I'm considering going to bed really early tonight and getting up around 5am as that's when it should start getting bad. I've got a little 2 burner propane stove and lots of little propane bottles .. I'm wondering if just boiling water on it in the greenhouse would help.
Now all I need to do is go finish watching a movie I rented from Red Box so I can return it tonight cause there is no way whatsoever I'll be going anywhere tomorrow.

The chemical hand warms aren't very expensive. I've used them before in my boots. In the old days I use to use a metal case with with some sort of solid fuel stick that smoldered in the case. Don't remember what those were called or if they are still made but they worked fairly well and the fuel sticks were cheap.
Core - I bought what you're referring to in a hunting store in Mt Airy a few weeks ago. And, it's at work, so I don't know the name either.Ii'll try to remember to check when I go in tomorrow.
Barb
Well I'm happy to report that at 8:41am all we have is rain! The bad news is that its 30 degrees outside .. hopefully that rises soon and we don't get ice.
How is everyone else faring?
34 and rainy here.
Oh my, can I come over and simmer in your hot tub?
I just looked out the window and (eek) the trees are now coated in ice. Temperature hasn't budged. Still below freezing. Got the kerosene heater fired up and the greenhouse is a cozy 49 degrees.
Absolutely! Of course, it's not hot as we haven't gotten in it in about 2 months....
I had to go out last night to the greenhouse and change the propane tank. Glad I did. It's a snug 50F in there.
Woke up at 7 am to moderate snow and temp around 26/27f. After accumulating 3", snow has now mixed with freezing rain and heavy sleet. Getting worried about power outages this pm - temp still hovering around 26f here in N Sumter County. Is it really too early for a drink? I'm thinking white russian...
I've been checking DOT cameras all over the state and it's a mess out there
http://www.dot.state.sc.us/getting/cams/
Ice is getting thicker on the tree branches.
I'm real tempted to preheat the bed to thermonuclear explosion and crawl back in.
Donna it's about 2pm in London England .. so you'll just be having a drink with your lunch.

We're just at freezing here .. I'm about to go back to bed .. it's been preheating for about a half hour now so it should be nice and warm!
GRRRRRR we have snow about an inch and now its sleeting on top of it.
I am so ready for March and spring.
