Nancy
Thanks, all! It's greatly appreciated.
Can't say it has started out very well. Both boys have a raging stomach virus since last night. My wife and I hardly slept. Hoping we're spared!
Thanks for the card, Ronnie!
I thought they arrested that guy, JD!
::::oh no:::: sorry to hear the boys are sick
Oh, that photo of beautiful hosta has perked us all up...Victor, think of a day 5 months in the future, where the kids are healthy, the sun is shining, and the temps are mild!
Happy Birthday, Victor!
Happy, happy birthday Victor. Hope your little guys feel better, and that you and your wife don't catch whatever it is. Poor kids to be sick during vacation.
Oh That stinks Victor hope they feel better soon and it passes over you and your wife...both my GDs and DIL had it at the same time. I am hoping it skips me this year.
Thanks, guys! I feel a little yucky, but so far, no volcanoes or mudslides like the boys, who are improving.
Thanks, Deb. Gorgeous shot!
Hope your boys get better soon and they don't give you THAT for a b-day present
Happy Birthday, Victor.
Thanks, Ric, Jen and Carrie!
you are catching up old man :)
Victor, I was traveling yesterday, so I missed your birthday and sick kids. No fun, hopefully they felt well enough to eat cake. I hope you and DW are spared and you can enjoy the winter's work of garden planning. I am working on my Victor List now and it is of a more reasonable length this year, but growing. Patti
Gorgeous Oakleaf, Patti! I only get 2 or 3 blooms on mine each year. Any tips? They might be getting too much shade :(
Like Victor's Hydrangea quercifolia, the DDeer use to get most of our buds until we fenced them out. We started with one in 1983 and have propagated many others from it over the years. They send up shoots that are almost invasive. I have no idea of which one it is, They are almost all planted on the sunny south side of house in sandy acidic soil with nominal watering. We do mulch the beds with cedar and fertilize the beds with general 10-10-10 or Osmocote. I know they hate wet feet as I gave one to someone who planted it too close to a stream and it killed it immediately. The next one thrived in a dryer spot for them. I prune them as needed right after they bloom (late July) as they set their next years blooms on old wood. We keep most of them at around 6 feet tall, but we have let one grow to 10 to 12 feet. It is pretty spectacular. That one gets a little shade from the overhanging cedar. We have planted a few in semi shady areas, but they are just a few years old, so not sure how they will do in the long run. They have bloomed, they are just not full bushes yet. We take off the previous years flowers in the early fall, though I think that is not necessary, but I think they look better without them once they go brown. You may be just getting a lot of winter dieback from your much colder zone than me that is destroying the bud sets. Not much help. Patti
Thanks, guys!
I appreciate the west coast wishes from Kell and Kin! Great shots, as always.
Beautiful Physocarpus and oakleaf, Pat and Patti!
You'll keep that head start, Bill!
Unfortunately, my wife got hit with the virus last night, so I'm the last one left (except the cats)! Hope I can avoid it.
The boys are fine now. Only good thing about those - they don't last long.

Oh No! Sorry to hear Mrs. Victor caught it! No kisses to make her feel better, Victor! I hope she is over it very soon! I think this calls for a second celebration of your birthday - with a second round of presents, of course - once everyone is well!! LOL
Thanks. Yes, my dinner and cake are still on hold!
