I found the maker of Earthmat, which I paved my garden with!

Fowlerville, MI(Zone 5b)

For those looking for the Earthmat I paved my garden with, I think I've found where you can buy some!!

First off, from what I can tell, it appears that the company, DeWitt, is the manufacturer of Earthmat. Earthmat and the staples for putting Earthmat down are found at Cary Ltd.: http://www.carys.com/greenhouse/dewitt.htm

Order & contact information for Cary’s LTD is found at: http://www.carys.com/terms.htm

Cary lists the Earthmat info as.....
Earthmat:

Earthmat is a 3 oz. polypropylene, lightweight economical fabric that provides moisture and weed control in greenhouses, outdoor areas and uncovered plantings.
It is UV stabilized and permeable to air and water and is a low-cost ecology-safe alternative to herbicide use.

E3/DEW-SBR6 Earthmat 6' x 300'

Anchor Pins:
DeWitt Anchor Pins properly secure and anchor landscape fabrics, ground covering and drip irrigation tubing. These special galvanized steel pins are angled at the ends for faster and easier installation. Use Anchor Pins to permanently and professionally anchor all of our fabrics.

I also found this at Gemplers. They don’t call it “Earthmat”, but DeWitt makes it and it sounds like it might be a tougher material (4 oz. instead of 3 oz.) and they also sell the staples for putting it down. The close up photo looks exactly like the material I have. Gemplers only offers it in 4 feet wide though. http://www.gemplers.com/product/139483/4-oz-4-ft-x-250-ft-Black-Medium-weight-Woven-Polypropylene-DeWitt-Weed-Barrier

Hope this is helpful! :)
I have been 100% happy with Earthmat and it is worth every penny! With it, there is NO WEEDING at all! ......Just remember to fold any cut edges under 4-6 inches, hammer a staple in every 12 inches, and every 6" where a seam crosses a walk path.

PS: NO mud also!! You can go right out into the garden after a rain, and as long as you stay on the Earthmat, your shoes stay clean! :)

Hi Glenda,

Sounds as if we have been on the same trail! I also found it at the two sources mentioned above. But if you go to http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/product/weed-barrier-20-year/ground-cover-fabric I believe it is the same thing for less. I have ordered from Green House Mega store before and been really satisfied with them. Thanks for researching this. At the Green House store you can get a smaller size of 3 x 50 for $19.90 as well as the 3 x 250 for $90.20. I will never be able to handle a 250 ft roll but at their price several rolls of 3 x 50 would be manageable. This seems much better than the thin plastic type stuff that eventually tears and weeds get a grip on from above if there is any soil on it. Then ripping out the weeds creates holes. I plan to use this in my veggie walking paths since it seems more durable. Thanks for checking this out for us!

Thanks so much!! They offer more sizes, etc.; that's awesome!!! I will order from them then! Thanks for letting me know about GHMS and that you've been happy with them. I will check out the rest of their website too. ;)

Happy New Year, and happy gardening in 2011. :)

I also have ordered from Green House Mega store before and been well satisfied with them. I have a "want" list that will have to "wait" :)

Last year I ordered a Hobby Portable Greenhouse from Green House Mega Store which is 3 x 3 ft and pops out. I never did try to pop it back for storage as I had to put it over my head to reach the corners to lock it and didn't relish dealing with setting it up again! But it is the best thing I ever had for my spring seedlings - high, roomy and rugged. And that item ships for free - a real bargain! http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/product/planthouse-portable-greenhouse/hobby-greenhouses
When I compared the prices and shipping for the landscape fabric with both Gemplers and the Mega Store, the Mega Store won out despite the higher shipping costs because their base prices are so much lower. This should really improve the walking paths in the garden. I also am starting a "want" list as I see they have good shade cloth prices as well!

You just wait gardadore; you are going to LOVE having your paths paved!! Send me a picture when you get it down! I'd love to see your garden! :) ......I check out your link for the portable greenhouse; VERY COOL, and I can't believe how inexpensive they are! Just might have to get me one of those! :) Did you get the clear one or one of the white ones?

Glad to hear TX_gardener was happy with greenhousemegastore.com too! I hate finding out the hard way that a business has bad service.

I can't wait, either! I was walking around in the bitter cold today surveying my potential walking paths!! I will use it mostly in the veggie garden but maybe also in some of the flower gardens. Will have to wait until about April to do anything about them! You will love the little greenhouse. The portable Flower Houses are white. I bought the $45 one (3 ft. x 3 ft., I believe). I have it sitting on a palette which is on top of 2 wooden horses so it is great for my back - easy to access at the right level. I then tie it down to the palette so the wind won't blow it away. I then unhook it in the fall and put it in the shed for safe keeping. It truly is a bargain at that price! (especially with the free shipping!) I would have liked the 4 x 4 but it was too large for the palette. I'll have to get another palette, I guess! LOL!! So much to look forward to in 2011. I will be traveling for the winter and not have as much access to the internet but I will check in on DG once in awhile!! Have a good winter and stay warm!! Jessica

The only problem I have with my "portable greenhouse" is being able to reach to the back of shelves, work with the lower shelves, etc. Mine is something like 36" wide, almost 24" deep, 5' tall and have four shelves. The bottom shelf is impossible to work with so I use it for storage and 3-4 coffee cans filled with sand for ballast since I am in windy Texas. Oh, and I also anchor it to a fence with cable ties!

TX,

Did yours come with shelves or did you purchase them separately? Mine has no shelves but then is not as high as yous either.

It's a Gardman Four Tier Mini Greenhouse that I ordered thru Meijer's website (seem to remember seeing it on other sites or something similar). It's not extremely sturdy and part of the zipper on the cover has already broken. It cost me about $40 so I guess it's ok and does hold a lot (plants or otherwise). The frame is made of plastic and the 4 shelves are open 'mesh' and just lay across the frame (so I twist-tied them in a couple of places).

Saylorsburg, PA(Zone 6a)

I guess I am bumping this thread up. I have several of the Four Tier Mini Greenhouses similar to the Gardman and love them as well but they do require some stooping to get to the bottom shelves. The zipper covers do seem to be the first to go but I cover it with a Remay cloth to reduce the impact of the sun through the plastic in the spring as they do heat up quickly.
Last night I placed my order with the Megastore for the 4 oz. weedbarrier. I did opt for the larger 250 ft roll in the end and hope I can handle it. I also bought the box of 500 pins as I go through them like water and figure if I have too many I can sell some to other gardening friends. Now I'm excited to get started on these paths. I hope the weedbarrier is as sturdy as they say and lasts. I'm so sick of the old barriers that are torn and have holes in them!
Thanks, Glenda, for posting this originally!

I have this barrier and I love it! It works great. I got the 250 ft roll also and may need more!

You're welcome gardadore! I'm all for anything that gets gardening closer to "maintenance free"! ;) lol .....I was out in the garden this past weekend checking out my paths to see how they're holding up. They look perfect and ready for another season!! :) It's still too cold to plant here but all the seedlings growing in my living room encourage me; giving me hope warm weather will be coming soon! This is the year I need to take down my fence, straighten it out, and stake it back down. This pic is from my first year gardening, but over time the fence has shifted and sagged. .....Lots of work to do. :)
