My first Eagle

Gainesville, FL(Zone 9a)

Im so excited Im shaking, I did not get his picture. I heard the crows having a fit, and they were trying to chase it out of the yard. It was glorius....it was beautiful, it was my first eagle. . What on earth did it want in my yard I wonder. Food. it kept going down to its feet and Im afraid to think of what it might have had. Still eleated I saw it.
Maybe I need to stop throwing all those nuts out for the squriles and birds when its cold, I might be growing him food. Still suprised he was in such a fairly closed in spot.

Thanks for letting me get that out. Wish I had had a picture. Beuatiful bird.

Congratulations! It's very exciting to see these beautiful creatures. Hope it screeched for you too. They're quite vocal and you can hear them from quite a distance. Keep watching the sky when it has flown past you, chances are it will return to search the same territory a very short time later.

I would guess the eagle was trying to grab a squirrel or snake rather than a bird. We see them grab ducks from the lake too, but they never come close enough to get our smaller birds.

I was always expecting it to be flying out in open space, if at all. Not in a backyard in gainesville.

Do you all know what could have been upsetting the crows. I found the behavior interesting. It seems odd that the crows would protect a squirell. Whatever it was, they sure let us know it was out there, and were not the least bit afraid of it.
Ive got a 'Gi-Normus' hawk that lives around here, nothing bothers it, like that.

My crows stay around our home year round and chase off all the eagles and hawks. I've read that they're protecting their nesting areas, but don't know if that's true since they do it even when they're not nesting.

Yes! That is the exact picutre I was seeing with my own eyes yesterday and could not believe it.
Ive seen them do the same with the hawks, I just thought they were straight up crazy. Interesting.
Even when the eagle was just sitting eating, they would not leave it alone. Clearly, the eagle could have cared less, the crows had no noticalbe affect.
