Christmas Came Early This Year . . . ^_^

Scotts Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Hello, everyone! ^_^

Some of you know that we lost our beloved Keeshond – Tazmin – in May of this year. And for the next 7 months, life did not get any easier. My 93-year-old mother became ill and had to go into a nursing home, prompting me to spend the majority of my time there with her. Also, John (my DH) had a small skin cancer removed from his neck, and then I had to have some surgery on October 25th. It looked as if we’d never be in a position to welcome someone new into our lives.

But a few weeks ago, it appeared as if my mother was finally starting to settle into her new surroundings, both John and I had healed from our surgeries, and we got a call from the breeder we had gotten Tazmin from over 12 years ago. She had a new litter of 5 puppies, born on October 14th, and were we interested? Hmmm . . . good question.

We had talked hypothetically about how we’d go about finding someone new, whether we’d go the Rescue route, or a get new puppy. But puppies are A LOT of work. (And frankly, Tazmin was not the easiest puppy in the world, bless her heart!) I had also seen a wonderful bumper sticker in Santa Cruz one day that brought tears to my eyes. It said, “Who rescued who?” We really liked the idea of Rescue, but when we talked to the Keeshond Rescue in our area, there didn’t seem to be anyone there at the moment who fit our needs. And it became clear over the next couple of weeks that John really wanted a puppy.

So on Saturday night, December 11th, 7 months after we lost Tazmin, John and I drove to the San Jose airport and picked up our new family member. She flew in from Houston, Texas, sharing the same kennel with one of her sisters who was going to her new home in San Jose. I was nervous . . . were we nuts to be getting a puppy sight unseen? Well, I should have known better. Frankly, I could have stuffed both those puppies under my shirt and snuck them out of that airport. They were both seriously adorable, and seriously precious.

So here is our new baby girl . . . and we’re both absolutely crazy about her. Unfortunately, she has a lunatic for a mother, a woman who can’t seem to settle on a name. I’m very particular about names, as evidenced by the fact it took me 4 weeks to name Tazmin. I like very pretty, but unusual names. I also believe that it should fit their personality, but it takes time to get to know a new puppy. There are days when I think I’ve settled on the perfect name, and then the next day I’m not so sure anymore. John was telling people that we’re waiting for her to tell us her name. However, as the days tick by, he’s getting impatient.

Suggestions, anyone?
